No rain in Texas

Central Texas is in the worst drought since the early 1950s and a record stretch of over 100 temperatures. We have seen several days of 105 and more than 30 days over 100. Lake Travis is down 32 feet.

One thing I have noticed is the effect on wildlife. Not only are deer destroying everything that they can reach, but I am seeing wildlife in my yard that I have never seen before. This morning, six wild turkeys strolled across my yard. Although I know there are wild turkeys in the area, this is the first time in 12 years at this location that I have seen one in the subdivision. I didn't have time to grab my telephoto, but here are the two tail-enders in rhe flock.

Yup, it's bad. Worst I can recall in a decade. Probably even decadeS.

It's just as bad south of San Antonio. We just put in a rainwater collection system. Is that optimistic, or what?

Hope that rainwater collection system doesn't fill up with dust.

They sugar coat the lake statistics somewhat too - that 32' down for Lake Travis is from it's seasonal average. The lake is really down 44' from full and dropping 1'/week.

It's so dry that just the other day I saw a carp in a straw hat beside the road with his flipper out trying to catch a ride north.
