No Casino in Gettysburg

Please visit www.nocasinogettysburg.ning.com and read what they are proposing for Gettysburg. As you may be aware I am a resident of Gettysburg and enjoy the battlefields daily. I do take my airstream out in the summer time to get away from the 3 million tourist who visit us every year. (Especially during bikeweek) This nocasino group needs all the help they can get to keep these casinos from coming near your battlefields. Thank you so much for reading and enjoy your day! And if you come to Gettysburg and can't find a place to park, send me an email.

I will be one of your 3 million tourists this summer. I plan on stopping at Gettysburg on my way to the Wally Birthday bash in June. How hard is it to book a camping site? Do I need to book way in advance?

visit gettysburg

Yes. Drummerboy camping resort and Artillary Ridge are the two nicest campgrounds in the area. July 2,3,4,5 is reenactment week and is awesome to be a part of. Bikeweek follows and as you can imagine is very very loud. This is the week I leave town for some peace and quiet. Otherwise, Gettysburg is a very quiet place. Especially the battlefields. Enjoy your time here.

I agree. This is not a place for a casino. There is also a Facebook page for the No Casino Gettysburg. Here's the link...No Casino Gettysburg | Facebook

Thanks to everyone who has joined NoCasinoGettysburg on facebook. Here is another link to a site that is afraid that a Casino in Gettysburg will forever alter the Gettysburg National Military Park.

If you have ever thought about coming to Gettysburg, we are coming up on the 150th anniversary and it is going to be awesome. Thousands and thousands of reanactors. If you like history and the civil war, plan on coming in 2013. Also, if you need a place to pull over for the night send me a message. We have a 60 acre farm and room to park your rig overnight just off Rt.15.

We've camped in the Gettysburg area for close to 25 years in various units...this year will be our first year in an Airstream. Will the ghosts of the battlefield receive us in an AS. I agree with NO CASINO! There is a time and place...neither of which apply here.

I too agree with the time and place and this is NOT the place. Tell them to take that casino to Louisiana, lord knows they would always welcome another. I can't wait to be able to get to visit, now that we are alot closer we may be able to get there for the 150th too.

I'm serious about the 150th. We went to the 140th reanactment and they had 15,000 reanactors. And to think this was only 10% of the soildiers that fought here. The 150th will be one to remember! Also Bob, Ghost welcome anyone that has an Airstream.

Good for you to be working against this casino next to such an important national landmark. I live in Maine and the gambling and Casino issue keeps coming around every few years but luckily continues to be voted down. So far!

I also feel your pain on the loud motorcycle issue. It has become a huge problem in scenic towns, resorts, otherwise quiet residental streets and as all campers now know in remote National Parks and Landmarks. You should not have to leave your home because a group of bikers with illegally altered mufflers invades your town.

All motorcycles have a federally mandated EPA label placed on their mufflers at the time of manufacture. Removing this exhaust is illegal, but unfortunately this law is not enforced at the state and local level.

In Maine, a loose knit group (myself included) have help pass a law that will begin to help regulate altered pipes and also enforse the EPA law.

Check out www.mecalm.org there is also a facebook page.

Instead of leaving town, help change the anti social and rude loud pipe craze that is detroying the quality of life everywhere. Contact your local officials and let them know that loud pipes have to go!

Good luck with your fight against Casinos. I will send a letter to your town to let them know we think it is a bad idea.

My wife & I were in Maine 28 years ago on our honeymoon. We camped in our 1970 Volkwagon Bus. (Wow, what memories that brings back) Anyway, I also have cousins in Bangor.

The sad part about the whole Casino issue is that the same person who wants to have a casino in Gettysburg is the same person who started Bike Week in Gettysburg. He also incidently opened up a Harley Davidson Store in town. He moved here about 10 years ago from Philadelphia and has wanted to bring all the big city elements with him, if you know what I mean. Anyone can sign a petition at
http://www.civilwar.org/take-action/speak-out/gettysburg/ Thank You.

Oh, We still have our 1970 VW Bus. I think I'll post a picture of it on in the next couple days.

Angry Ack- not Airforums too!

This arguement has no place here, nor does linking to one sided propaganda. I'm so sick of this thing, I don't want to get into a big forum back and forth but there are very good pro casino points as well that have already been made by respected community members who also love Gburg and Adams County and want the best for it. So I'm ethically obligated to include links to Home - Evening Sun (see the op-ed supporting the project with excellent pro casino points) and BoroughVENT.

Both my husband and I grew up in Gettysburg, our parents, siblings and relatives still live there amd we'll be living there again this summer to fix up our Airstream on the family farm. So believe me I have heard all sides of this more than a FEW times. This casino proposal is five miles out of town, not on he battlefield and is already a huge obnoxious hotel & "sports complex". This is a legit and legal business proposed by a local man who has done more to protect and preserve hallowed ground, and donate to better the community than almost anyone. I'm more worried about the crime stemming from the insane amount of unemployment than a casino, and this will bring jobs to the community.

I also wonder why all of this time and energy worrying about imaginary future crime has never been focused on the REAL and CURRENT major drug trafficking problem in the county. It would be nice to see this amount of outrage and organizing devoted to combating a real problem.

Ugh thats all from me, I don't have a horse in this race but imagine my suprise at seeing this here. I don't care if anyone is "pro" or "no" but I encourage everyone to educate themselves about BOTH sides before forming and opinion.

And now back to the fun happy stuff that makes me smile... Airstreams!

Also, the man who is proposing this casino GREW UP there and MOVED BACK after a some years away. This makes him a local, just as many of us grow up and leave our small hometowns to better ou situations only to return to our communities later in life.

Shame on you 'gettysburg' for trying to paint him as an outsider trying to ruin the town. And double shame on you because anyone involved with pro or no casino and knows of the LeVans knows this, so this was a purposeful misreprestentation and attempt to smear.

He also voluntarily preserved tons of his own historically significant property, including property very near Culps Hill. The casino proposal property is not on or near hallowed ground. Yeesh.

Thank You Safari62! As for the noise of loud pipes, the borough prohibits Jakebrakes and loud pipes, but this is a small town and the police department is just too overwhelmed to able to have any control over the noise. It is sad that just a few people can ruin it for the other law abiding bikers. Anyway, I guess inspections is the way to help control it. I will pass along the link www.mecalm.org. Enjoy your day.
