We here in the upper Midwest have finally cooled off, tonight will be in the single digits. Sadly, my spring flowering bushes have all budded out and my mums have started to grow with the fifty degree temps we have had up to now. With little to no snow cover there is also no insulation for them so they Will probably die off. The forecasts do call for another warm up starting next week. This is not winter it is abnormal.
I feel bad for you in the SW and California who are now getting the unusually cold weather since this is something you are not prepared for.

It is starting to warm up here some, a few mornings ago it was 13 degrees, it's only getting down into the 20s now. Much better, fewer broken water pipes.

84 here again today. FWIW, that is 10-12 degrees above normal for this time of year. I can hardly wait for August...

67 at 7 pm last night, 52 at midnight and a minute later the high for the day. The temps have slowly drooped throughout the day, but they increased the predicted low to 32 and no froozen rain. Typical winter near Atlanta.

It's 11 degrees and 5:30 P.M. here in central Maine. Nothing unusual for us - and we're happy to have it. We should drop below "0" before morning. I worry more about it being too warm and not having any snow - since we need both the cold and the snow to make everything work right environmentally, as well as economically. I do sympathize with those areas of the country that are getting hit with temperatures much lower than they're use to.

The weather guy says snow Friday, snow Saturday and more snow Sunday here in New Mexico. I say it's all Arizona's fault.

We received 3-4 inches of snow overnight here in the extreme northern part of the Texas Hill Country. Never got above freezing all day.

I'm here in downtown San Antonio, TX on a business trip. There was a quarter inch of ice covering everything this morning. The news says there is snow north of town. Can't wait to get back to Florida.

Texas Skiers

Apologies in advance to Texans. But given the recent weather this may be apropro. I even know a few Texans.

For you easterners, there is this rivalry thing between Texans and New Mexicans. Texas as you know is purdy flat. I have been told there are some places in Texas if you stand on a billy can and stare at the horizon hard enough you can see the back of your head. New Mexico has some purdy fair ski areas.

From a New Mexico Ski Resort bathroom wall "If God meant for Texans to ski he would have made bull**** white.

As posted a few posts above, it is getting warmer here, up to the 20s in the overnight.
However, last night we got rain, then it froze. I've never seen so many bad California-I don't know how to slow down-drivers in my life. Our drivers out here have enough trouble driving in the rain and snow, let alone ice.
All you in the mid west, be careful and hang in there.

Yeah, the inlaws north of town in Boerne, TX sent me some pictures and ice and SNOW at their house. Too slick to walk outside, let alone drive. They are originally from New Orleans, and while they have seen snow there in the past, they have never seen such a persistent ice and snow storm as this one here in Texas. With their tin roof, they have been having HUGE sheets of ice slide side down and off the roof.

I'm not sure what is better, 2 inches of ice or 8 feet of snow . . .
