New type language

My wife and I went to the Anaheim Pond last night to see what was described as a fantastic show.

First of all, it was pouring down rain. Walking a half mile didn't help, after paying $10.00 parking.

The show was supposed to start at 8PM. I guess 8:15 is close enough.

The headliner was the "Devine Miss M."

We left during the intermission. Enough was enough.

We certainly are not prudes, however, we heard more than enough of "mother xxxxxx," and the infamous "xxxx" words.

Coming from the mouth of a lady that purports to be the "Devine One," a classy lady, a classy show, as far as we are concerned, totally ruined the show, at least the part that we stayed to see.

Bette Midler, you went too far.

On top of that, tickets were far from cheap, which should be related to a true blue terrific show. The sound system was horrible. Could hardly understand some of what she was saying and/or singing.

It seems that our New Generation must use filthy language, but for what purpose, really escapes us.

Perhaps it's the kind of shows that are designed for todays younger crowd. If it is, then we have gone to the last one. Most Vegas shows also use the four letter word, with the greatest of ease.

But the final straw, is the cost of "A" beer. $10.00 per pop. WOW.

Could make someone switch to straight water, but that was $4.00 per small bottle.

Hawaii, your looking better, everyday.

Andy

Amen

Andy I totally agree with you. I'm not a prude and did my fair share of swearing when I injured myself working on cars(just ask my wife) but I think that the use some 4 letters words and such has gotten way out of hand. 90% of the time in shows, any other word would have worked just as well. This is one of the reasons we don't see as many shows/movies anymore. And then to pay the prices you did !!! Makes you wonder.

I know how you feel. Kinda like I felt when I received my order from you being charged $12.50 shipping when it was sent via US mail at a charge of $1.75.

Tim.

We agree with you.

However, when we must pay an employee mileage to drive their car, to the post office, take a number, wait in line, and drive back, all at your request, it does become expensive.

Employees don't work for free.

When we include those factors, we lost money on your transportion costs.

Nothing is free, especially labor.

WE would suggest that if you wish to have free shipping, that you drive to southern California, to pick up the parts. Surely, the cost of gasoline and your time, would be far cheaper than shipping costs.

Well, at least the price of the beer got you to say a three letter word.

I said nothing of free shipping as I'm sure you didn't ask for a free beer.

I'm sure the beer vendors have setup and employee costs as well. But it did not keep you from commenting on it

Perhaps if you wanted a beer at a fair price you should have gotten in your car and left the show to go to the local liquor store.

I saw Bette Midler at the filming of "The Rose". I was an extra in the part where she lands in the chopper and gives a concert to us 'Vets". She was the foulest mouth I've ever heard on a woman. She was also quite nasty with the mic in between takes. I guess maybe Geraldo wasn't making up all he said about her in his book.

Tim, he's a wino.

I deal with the public everyday and frequently have to listen to ugly, course language as part of my job. But I refuse to pay to go listen to it. If others wish to, I guess that is their affair.

I'd also heard that Midler was pretty raunchy. She did a show in Munich back in the late 1970s when I was living there. I didn't get to attend; friends did. They came away with the same impression back then that Andy did just now. Some people seem not to change.

I will have to take your suggestion up with our family "tour guide," my wife. She was from Michigan.

But I guess I spoiled her with Hawaii.

Oh well, if that's where she wants to go, it's OK with me. (Not really OK, but heck yes, lets go).

I think she got hooked on Mai Tai's.

We're with you!

Andy, I agree. The "Divine Miss M" really has a divine talent. Bette Midler does not have to resort to trash to give a great show. Her voice and wit and stage presence are far and away all she needs to attract and hold an audience. Then why? Why do she and so many others in entertainment today trash their talents? We are with you. We don't give our dollars to this kind of "fun." I sure don't think we are prudes, but why pay for something that will leave you feeling ripped off instead of entertained?

I know it's an old thread, but I want to agree!

Andy,

It seems that the entertainment industry as a whole have decided that using trashy language somehow enhances the value of their performance.

Comedians say that the use of swear words adds shock value to their stories/jokes/act. I don’t know about that, but Yes, I’m Shocked!

The movie industry seems to think that action movies are only good if they have included the F word about a zillion times in the script. Not only this, but we also have to have the nude scene, or the copulation scene. I don’t know what happened to the idea of just suggesting it rather than showing it. I think we are intelligent enough to understand what is happening in the movie. I would much prefer seeing a couple engaged in heavy kissing and them departing into the bedroom and the scene being cut and moving to something that is happening somewhere else, then to have the entire scene along with the moans and groans thrust upon us.

The music industry is no exception, and since the inclusion of “Wrap (Crap) Music” it seems that the use of the foul four letter word has increased.

All in all I think it relates to the consistent demoralization of our society. What wasn’t an acceptable practice years ago is now not only being accepted, but it is being embraced. Those that speak out against it are considered as being hard nosed, closed minded or even bigots.

Lastly, IMHO it shows a lack of intelligence when someone uses such language, and especially so when they are voicing a complaint about something. Do they really think that the use of obscenities is supposed to get someone moving in some personally envisioned higher degree of motivation? Often it has just the reverse effect, I digress. The truly intelligent person will discuss their complaint at an even tone and seek a solution. I have found that this attitude will more often make people succumb to your desires, and often in an expeditious manner.

Ah, The Good Old Days. Where have they gone, and why did we ever leave them????????
