New Festool "Airstream" Fast-Charging Battery System

I just came across this and thought it was interesting, for those of you who might use Festool equipment. No financial interest, just found it kinda cool.

If I were the Festool company, I'd expect a trademark infringement lawsuit pretty soon

That is interesting but I am not sure if this isn't going to keep some trademark lawyers busy for awhile.

For those of you not familiar with Festool, them make excellent power tools that are designed and built better than anything else out there. They are sort of the Airstream of power tools!

Likely a cease and desist letter going out as we speak.

In a perfect world... wouldn't it be "cool" if the "Airstream Airstream" people got together with the "Festool Airstream" people and talked the "Festool Airstream" people into creating a "Festool Airstream" battery designed for use in an "Airstream Airstream"? Keeping the charging battery cool during charging to improve the charging efficiency...better solar effectiveness?

In a real world... you're right, I see lawyers, threats and court time.

They'd sure better be good for the price they charge! our local Lee Valley stores here in Canada sell them. Think I'll be sticking with Dewalt!

Even better - a Festool Airstream 27FB Eddie Bauer as a sort of mechanic's dream trailer

Festool could double down and call the charger the Basecamp, making the entire set the "Airstream Basecamp"

. . . then announce that the entire production run was being recalled.

Festool stuff is well worth the money. (Credentials? They invented the circular saw and the random orbit sander...). But yes, it is even more expensive than Airstream when compared to competitors. (About 5x the price.)

Very durable, excellent design, and they pay attention to details like dust collection, power management, and safety (imagine!). All the tools integrate, so accessories are cross compatible.

Buy an expensive too, cry once. Buy a cheap one, cry every time you use it.

Not sure I agree - one aspect of trademarks is applicable business sectors. A quick search of TESS system shows 68 LIVE and DEAD trademarks that use the work Airstream.

In the below search - note the language in #23:
"... and none being for caravans, motor homes, trailers for motor vehicles or travel trailers for motor vehicles, and none being intended for sale to the general public or to the caravan, motor home, trailer or travel trailer industry"

I didn't see a registration for FESTOOL. I'm sure they have a cadre of IP lawyers as well.

There is standard trademark infringement which requires a likelihood of confusion as to product source. Noncompetitive or "non business sector" marks may avoid infringement there.

But there is also dilution by blurring (or tarnishment but probably not in this case); available to famous marks.

We may find out whether the courts find Airstream to be as iconic across the general public as we likely think it is.
