I live about 40 mi NW of Houston and find myself with an abundance of good grass hay. This area has had a great year for the haycrop. I have my barn full and have about 800 to 1000 more square bales to cut and bale. If anyone knows of someone that is in a drought area that is needing hay I would be glad to see them come and haul it at a very reaasonable price. I need to sell it in the field. Due to my age (72) I wouldn't be able to load it for them. Labor around here is hard to find for working hay. we can't bale round bales as our equipment is for square bales. I recall news stories about severe drought conditions all summer in northern Mississippi and Alabama. Most livestock producers in that area might be interested in available hay for the winter. I hope the word spreads through this web forum.

Here I sit with three barns full....11000 square bales.....an unheard of fourth cut coming on strong. Last year we imported from as far as Wyoming. Any of you who have worked square bales know the work involved.....even harder as I see the Airstream ready to roll as Fall color season is upon us......the choice...The Lady or the Tiger? (so to speak)

I think this is good grass hay . It isn't weedy , It wasn't fertilized this cutting so I have no idea about the protein content. Looks good and smells good. We want to cut again next week if the rain chances go down. The price is low enough that it would be possible for someone to make the trip from TN or Al to get a couple hundred bales. $3.00 a bale in the field you load and haul.
$5.00 a bale if we put in our barn and you still load and haul. I have about 1000 bale yet to be cut and baled.

That's a good price and awesome for this year, when last year was so desperate.
Have you tried places like The Hay Barn and the Hay Exchange? They give you exposure on line to anyone looking for hay. The Hay Barn charges $6 for a two-week ad and I believe the Hay Enchange is free. Your county/state ag/extension office may be able to help you as well.
We really could have used this last year! We have three mules, a horse and a donkey and the area was almost totally out of hay.

Last year the same thing happened to us . The man my husband let cut our hay was to leave us 1/2 . He cut and hauled it all while we were spending time in Arkansas with our son on his leave from Iraq. So dry there was no second cutting. He had hay for his cows and we had none to sell to pay the taxes on the land. People like that will get their payback sometime. This year the man Roy had an agreement for 1/2 cut and baled about 300 bales and when he couldn't sell it at the high price that hay was bringing last year put 300 bales in his barn. He left 200 bales in wind rows and was going to shred it. My nephew baled and sold it at $3 so at least I got something toward the taxes. My husband passed away in Aug so I am having my nephew use our equipment to cut and bale. I am willing to sell it at a reasonable price as something is better than nothing. My main problem is the hauling and storage if it isn't sold. I was hoping to be able to connect with someone in need of good hay that would buy it in the field. Someone or something will turn up as it seems to always work out someway if you do what is right and keep on working towardd the goal.
If I was closer to those goats I would gladly donate some of this to them.
