Question Name? Does my Airstream need a name?

I guess I'm a pretty boring old guy.

I've owned numerous cars, probably 30 bicycles including four or five recumbents, an airplane, a sailplane and now two RVs. I've never named any of them. As a matter of fact although my dog did have a name I'm probably the type of guy who would let the poor beast go nameless.

So now I've got this beautiful shiny Airstream but for the life of me I'm not sure if I will name it and if I did what I'd call it. For the time being I'm putting it in the lap of my wife.

How did the rest of you come up with a name and how many of you have left your shiny aluminum toy nameless?

Some people name there Airstreams and some don't. I think most of the names come out of a characteristic or experience the owners have had with there Airstreams. Some good reading here. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...ames-2442.html.

To name or not to name...

Thumbs up

"Cloudsplitter"....is a Native American translation for the Adirondack Mountain Region of NYS.

Somehow the word just fit...especially when camping there.

ps, we had a dog named J.D. Any guesses?

There was a "horse with no name", why not an Airstream?

One of my hobbies during my lifetime was blacksmithing, which is how my father started as a young man during the 20's. I inherited many of his tools and began also working with tin which I enjoy. I only fire up the forge during cool or cold weather now days for comfort.

Hence I use the name as "Tinman" and our Airstream is named the "Tincan".

As Paul Harvey would say - "and now you know the rest of the story".

Good Luck,

My wife always refers to me as a "Toad", hopefully in a playful manner! We thought we'd call our baby Toad Hall from characters and places in A A Milne play Toad of Toad Hall, which in itself was derived from the Kenneth Grahame book The Wind In The Willows and the fact that I used to live in the village that Grahame lived in. Of course, this being a trailer and me having a propensity for using alternate meanings for words, we settled on Towed Haul; rather appropriate I thought! :~)

Usually, anything that humans "love", sooner or later "gets a name".

Just wait -- this happened to us. We tried to think of names and they never stuck and one day we started calling her "the Boat." It was a total slip on my part (our previous form of recreation involved our boat, which we no longer have) and ever since then, that has been her name.

You may just surprise yourself one day!

Yes. It is a rule. You have to name it.
Ours is named after my wife's dad.

We've named both our Airstreams after their original owners...guess that doesn't work so well with a non-vintage trailer now does it!?

We were both born in the year of the rabbit and there were already a bunch of Bambis running around, so we decided on Thumper.... feisty, great sense of humor.... able to scamper on down the forest trails. And its the first thing we've named in 37 years of marriage... well aside from the kids and the dogs because kids just have to have a name and all we ever got were blank stares when we leaned out the back door and yelled "hey you, black dog with the silver collar."

My wife (I swear she was not trying to make a joke) said, " Oh look, a Jack Daniels terrier." I wish now that I had take a picture of him.

To keep this on topic: Once I grew up and stopped naming stuffed animals, I do not name inanimate objects. In fact, even though I grew up very involved in boats and spent 5 years in the Navy, I did not fall for the brain washing. A boat or a ship (or a trailer) is an it not a she.

Just Dog... You want maybe the world believe your dog fair and impartial, beholden to none against enemies domestic and foreign, with liberty and justice for all? That's an awesome Dog!

I'm with w7ts on christening inanimate objects unless required legally - though in my case its probably because I'm not clever enough to pull it off...
