My TINY HOME on wheels

My tiny home on wheels cost $387.73 per square foot in 2014. It depreciates about 10% per year. My cost of $71,343 (sticker $82,712), 23 feet x 8 feet give me a close floor surface at 184 square feet. (Not a bumper to end of hitch... as living space.)

A relatively decent Wyoming Cabin of $389,000 is $109 per square foot (3,570 square feet, 400 square foot storage building) with .53 acre lot. A photo had a rainbow and another some deer feeding in their lawn. The price was $379,000 in 2015.

Should I offer to trade them my Tiny Home on Wheels for their Cabin?

Advantages on my tiny home:
No lawn to mow
Move with the Seasons
Deer, Elk and Moose are only a road issue
No furniture
No address

Disadvantages:
None that I am able to recall.

Sure!
But keep the AS so you can escape the snowstorms.

Where do you find a desirable cabin in Wyoming for under $400K?

Hi Human Bean: Calling an Airstream travel trailer a "tiny house" is a bit of a stretch seems to me. And at $390 a square foot a rather expensive tiny house.

I think mobile homes fit that "tiny house" description better. I think of Airstreams being comfortable travel trailers. Yep, you can live in one for a long time in the right weather and right conditions; if living involves sitting and sleeping, not actually walking around the house. I think the way Airstreams are outfitted negates them as houses. The furnace is cheap, the water heater is cheap, the air conditioner is cheap, the insulation is cheap, the plumbing ill suited for long term living during the winter months, and on and on. RVs are built to be low cost and low hour products.

We love our Airstreams. They are well built travel travel trailers. A few of them are used for full time living. You gotta admire the people doing it.

As a full timer myself, I can't imagine being on my death bed saying, "I just wish I had spent more time walking around my house."

Snow? Snow in Wyoming?

www.zillow.com is the modern real estate finder. Vacant lots from farms being broken up are common and reasonable and cabins of all kinds. Not long ago this was an impossible task. Today... we can electronically tour and visit most everything that is for sale at... home. Then hook up the trailer and check out what looked promising. This time... we came, we saw, we left.

After doing 'due diligence', water, roads, HOA's at some developed former Ranches, access, geology and geographical settings, looking at homes, cabins and vacant land... Nevada is looking better, again.

Three seasons in southern Nevada and the Summers at elevation, in trailer or cabin, is our goal. Looking is the beginning of new adventures. When we see it... we will know.

And if your neighbors kids knock the heads off the sprinklers, you can always hitch up and move!

One of my regrets is not buying land in small town Colorado 30 years ago. I fell in love with a simple valley with great views of the San Juan range.
Unfortunately, so did thousands of other people, and the prices have skyrocketed. Now retired, I won't ever go into debt again, so it will remain a dream.

Think of you every time we visit the Hoover Dam. That certainly was funny to see that gieser!

Having our 7th homeless anniversary this year, yup... having fun!

Be well

When we believe our Airstream is crowded and complain... my brother has it all figured out. He flint knaps making Indian tools the old way. By hand. These are a couple of photos of his latest Tiny Home.

He is happy, meets many curious people at campgrounds and this is 365 days a year and add a day for Leap Year.

Some spend a life searching for something and just a small number discover what they were looking for and doing it. This is one example of a Free Spirit.

But... then again... stuff happens.

Talent... is a terrible thing to waste... worrying about what others think of you.

There are many .5 acre lots available in Wyoming's west part of the State. Even larger and outside of HOA controlled neighborhoods under development.

If there is a will, there is a way. It is the hunt that is satisfying. Nancy and I have been on the hunt the day we were married. You also. Never give up. When you least expect it... something is staring you in the face. And not a Black Bear.

I can understand why there is adverse reaction to those who can actually use their Airstream as a functional and fully operational Tiny Home.

Las Vegas Review-Journal, Saturday & Sunday September 8-9, 2018 page 2D, YOUR tiny home on wheels HOME: Happy (home) campers find extra living space by Mary G. Pepitone.

Those who posted on this Thread... are ahead of the rest.

Our Blue Heelers find our Airstream an 'upgrade' from their pet porters, while traveling. Both want the dog cushion under the table in the trailer. If I get it first, they are just going to have to wait.
