My first Airstream sighting..

Let's see, Im 43 now and when i was 12 i went to see my uncle for a few weeks in Victoria BC. and i saw this trailer that i just loved. I couldnt remember seeing one before and thought to myself someday i would get one of those. So my wife just got a new scanner and i thought it would be cool to scan this old picture and have the pro's tell me what year and model it actually is so i can add it to my campfire stories..

anybody able to help me out??

Vin

Possibly a '78 or there abouts trailer? From the length my guess would be Excella 31'. Ed

Thanks Ed,

So i think that was the summer of 79' so she must have been brand new or close to it. I will go with that story.

I think that in the late 70's airconditioners became pretty popular to have on your AS, and the blue stripe seems pretty Excella to me too.

I don't know about the trailer, but the other vehicles—my guess is a Ford Econoline for the van and something European for the car—maybe a Vauxhall or another long forgotten brand. You may think I don't know anything about the other vehicles either.

Thats right! I was lucky enough to take that ship to Victoria that day. We walked over to have Tea and Crumpet as the Empress Hotel (funny being 12 I could care less about all the cool things i actually see in the pictures i took). So here i am @ 12 cruising the waterways back to the state side. What a dork i was.. how did we make it through those early years..

I agree with most believing it to be a mid to late 70s Excella 500.

Yep. The Excella blue stripe is a magnet for other vehicles hitting it.

It's funny, but when I was a kid I remember seeing Airstreams and wanting to puke. Even the new ones just looked so old and dated compared to the modern white boxes roaming around. I just knew that in every one of them tooling around Yellowstone there was a pack of Blue Hairs ready to get out and block my way to the trail head.

Now I've done a 180 and can't imagine spending time in anything else.

This '74 seems smaller than the original posted picture. The rear most street side window is set farther aft than the one in the '74 model picture. also the distance between that window and the ones nearest the tongue seems to be greater. Were there Excella 500 or 1000 in the late '70's? Ed
