Moxie

Hey out there - anyone still drink this? I remember #9 The Yaz at Fenway pounding the ball out of the park as my dad and I listened on the radio and pounded down a few Moxie's. That Yaz - now he had Moxie!

You may be the only one...

Nope, not drinking it, though didn't it have chocolate in it? Or was that Yoo Hoo... (Yogi's drink of choice for Yankee fans..)

In our youth we drank Nehi Orange or Grape, or Super Coola (Los Angeles, cans with bottle cap on top). Coke came in single flavor, and 6 oz bottles. RC Cola was a lot closer in market share than today, probably ahead of Pepsi...

I do remember early TAB when introduced tasted pretty awful....

Oh yeah, I remember Shasta. And pull off tabs. Oh, yeah, I also remember punching the triangle holes in the can tops with the ___ tool, whatever it was called.

Tim, sorry for the highjack, no I don't drink.

Oh, yea. Plenty of folks drink Moxie around here. Not surprising since it came out of Maine.

Do any Californians remember "The Pop Shoppe"? My dad used to come home with a case of pop in all different flavors then take the bottles back and exchange them for new ones each week...I always liked the cream soda. I don't think they were in the normal stores...I don't remember seeing them. Not sure if it was just a So Cal thing or more wide-spread ~

Shari

<on edit> I just foud this! Wow...who knew? Although the website says not available in the USA...but I remember having them in the late 60's-early 70's. Hard to imagine we we near one of only "11 US stores"...hmmm, in our (then) little town of El Toro?!

If I told you that my favorite soft drink is Vernors where would you say I was from? From time to time when I place some on a store check out counter a clerk would say "I know where you are from." Your guess would tell you my home town ball team.

MMMMmmmmm...Verrrrrnors!!!!

Oh, now you are talking my language....!! Vernors and Detroit!!!

A Vernors float on a hot summer day!!! YUM !! Nothing like it!!! Just dont sniff it in a glass as the bubbles will make you sneeze somethin' awful !!!! haha!!

Yup, we Detroiters also have "SQUIRT" as a hometown favorite too.... Yummy stuff...as they have a couple different varieties of it now...

We used to have a "Pop Store" of sorts here in the Detroit area too, back in the 70s..it was called "Towne Club", and you could go into their stores, and grab a case (wooden, of course) and pick out individual flavors, mix n match to your hearts content.... They had the coolest names for all their flavors too!!! I remember "Wildfire" and "Pop-A Go-Go"....were my faves!!! haha!! That was always a treat to go in there and mix n match a case of pop, and some of the wild colors they dyed that stuff!!! haha!!

The closest we have to a "hometown" soda now is "Faygo", and their "Red Pop" is still a local legend...!!!

We had a pop shoppe in Lethbridge, Alberta as I was growing up. For a while at least. It was a franchise thing I believe. I remember as a kid going to what was called the half-way store east of Edmonton and buying Ginger Beer. Sort of a Mountain Do (or however it's spelt) but my memory says it was more of something I can't place.

I'll give myself away too. Vic Wertz from the Tigers and Bobby Layne for the Lions. Love my Vernors.

Yeah, Tim...I always have Vernors in the camping ice chest keeping cool with other alumunum containers. Vernors is good warm too but I like the way the cool bubbles tickles my nose when I tip the glass back. Looks like this will be my contribution during our winefest. I will bring some extra.

Some more Detroit legends.....

I remember my Dad always talking about Bobby "Night Train" Layne with the Lions...I guess they were legendary in the late 50s.... what happened???

The Tigers were right there too in 68, 84, and almost last year.....

What do the Lions play again these days...??? sorry, it escapes me.....

Well, maybe youse guys will let me join you if I promise to bring along some Vernors, Faygo, Better Made Potato Chips, and a whole bag full of Coney Islands from the Lafayette, downtown???? Topped off with a few Hot Fudge Cream Puffs from Sanders!!!!!

If I can't impress you on my own merits, and overwhelming brilliance---i will bribe you with treats!!! hehe..... (it always works with my kids!!) hehe....
