when i have to spend extended time away from home for work, i have always wanted to take my trailer instead of staying in some flea bag motel!

i bet i could even get mrs. HD to join me!

hmmm, where's my utili kilt at???

Absolutely riveting!

Okay, now I get it! Thanks john hd for the information on the pop rivets and the link to the site that explains how it works. It makes a lot more sense to me now.

Rivetted!!!

OK, that rivet tool that is ergonomically designed for one hand operation is a myth!!! Unless you have gargantuan hands, forget using a rivet tool with one hand! I like rivets, but I have to say it took me a bit of figuring out how to use it, since these don't come with instructions. My advice--but a .30 cent nailing plate from the building materials section at your local hardware store. It will give you something to practice with. And an experience, well, nothing short of pornographic!

Shove the fat end of the rivet in the hole and put the skinny wire in the tool. Start relishing the obscene thoughts running through your brain and start pumping the handle. Chuckle and ignore the men folk as the short end of the rivet swells. They're just jealous. Break out into hysterics when it snaps off and the whole action is over!

Oh, baby, rivets rule! Best thing--you can probably get in a whole handful before your wrist aches!

I'm in Virginia and I have a new unit, but I'm very impressed with what some of the renovaters and restorers have done. So if I'm invited I'll make every effort to show up.

Tin Lizzie
Tin Lizzie you make me dizzy with your first line .

If you are ever looking for a place to travel our driveway is open to all - we are young okay semi young - no kids but love dogs (Kids are welcome too but they have to be on a lead) we do party - we are members (of lots of things but please don't hold it against us). If you are into water sports, hanging out by the fire and like coronas then we don't care what year you have or what colour it is.

I am going to take on an easy job - polish the tanks - found a place to buy a Cyclo for $259 us anyone know of them cheaper? Not doing the tanks with it - doing that by hand.

I then have lots of screws to replace from the 3000 mile pounding trip we did to our baby. New Axle will be ordered this week - going with the OEM - just a better fit, rated properly and made for our coach - and the price is not that much different to the Dexter make - by the time you add in the shop rates to install it because of the adjustments that would be necessary. Peter wants new wheels as well as new tires to round out the running package. We will keep the other tires for spares.

Hey Judy GREAT THREAD! 3 pages of replies in only 2 days!

And for those who haven't drilled out rivets before you're in for a treat! I spent several hours yesterday (until I couldn't feel my hands anymore) drilling out rivets in the bath of my Safari. Just cram that 1/8 bit in that little hole and...let it rip! Aluminum flies everywhere and instead of pulling off the rivet "collars" from my bit I'd let them stack up sort of like how pilots used to mark the side of their plane after they shot the enemy down. POW! BANG! Take that you lousy rivet! My record was something like 20 before it started to interfere with progress....are they that much fun to replace? Dare to dream!

Yeah!

I wish all us 'streamme fatales lived closer. I would so be into a cooperative helping club. And two of my 40+ friends are dead set on making a reality show when my trailer is done, we're going to follow Bruce Springsteen all over the country and call it The Springsteen Life. We're thinking it would have a sort of Thelma and Louise tone to it, but no getting assaulted and then driving off cliffs. Bank robbing and obnoxious-trucker-rig blasting I can do, but that might end our corporate sponsorship/speaking tour/Oprah appearances.

Anyway. Thanks for this thread. I am relating. I talked to my husband for an hour about how I don't understand when he just says "drill out" rivets, when in fact, as it turns out, you put the drill in the middle of the rivet and drill INWARDS for the rivet to come out. So please come out and SHOW ME sweetheart or no nookie for you.

Can I come to a chick rally? If there is one?

You all are wonderful. I wish we could meet some day and I wish I had the time and money to travel and help. Would that be fun or what. And they talk about "male bonding". This has turned out to be great fun and I've found out there are a lot of "us" out there. Thanks to the men who have joined us. That rivet things was super. I always wondered how those things worked. Still haven't tried to drill one out or pop one in, but now I'm empowered. Come next week-end I'm going tool shopping and filling MY tool box. You know we didn't even get into the "buying the tow vehicle" end of this thread. Car salesmen who call you honey or want to talk to your husband about the "big truck". I wanted to shout "it's my truck and my money---talk to me". The truck salesman who told me I couldn't pull a trailer over 20ft with the Ford F150, Triton V8. He didn't care what the trailer weighed, just how long it might be. Then the guys who argue that I don't know what the weight of my trailer is (I weighed in on the truck scares). Aren't men cute. They have an answer for everything. It's just that no two of them have the same answer. Honestly I do love men. It's always been my experience that they are so confused by an independent woman. Some love us, some hate us. Some just think we're pushy broads.
