Thumbs up May We All Celebrate Lucille Ball-100 Years

Born on August 6th 1911, I for one would like to remember this Iconic women as she always made me laugh, whether in the movie based on Clinton Twiss's book, The Long Long Trailer, or the old black and white TV shows. Way back then, her humor and brilliant timing was second to none!

Here's a video from NBC's Nightly News that brings many of us back to her. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams: News and videos from the evening broadcast- msnbc.com
Enjoy!

100 years, and she will always be with us!
Love, Terry

Turner Classic Movies is doing a 24 hour movie marathon starring Lucy today. The Long, Long Trailer is on at 2:30 eastern today. Having never seen it, I'm gonna try to this time 'round.

Thanks Jim..... just DVR'd it, never saw it all at one time all the way thru.

Jamestown NY, she was born there, is having a big celebration this weekend. The whole town is Lucyized.
Could be a candidate for a Lucy Rally next year, who can bring the longest trailer?.... I'm sure the local COM would love it.

We named our beloved Airstream, Lucy, in honor of her. We keep a copy of the Long, Long Trailer in Lucy at all times.

I'm not too old yet (45), but can remember fondly my Saturday afternoon's (if it was raining)...Laurel & Hardy, The Bowery Boys, Abbott & Costello, Wild Wild West and I Love Lucy!

I have 5 children now, and can't imagine any of them having a desire to watch any of those classics which required an attention span of more than 3 seconds...how sad!

I loved Almost everything Lucille Ball appeared in...a real class act and hillarious ta boot.

Same here! Actually Lucy was in regular rotation during the 'after-school' block, so I'd watch it just about every day, along with Gomer Pyle. Sunday mornings were for Laurel & Hardy, Abbot & Costello, and Little Rascals - watched while eating breakfast with Grandpa! - good times

May We All Celebrate Lucille Ball-100 Years

Lucille Ball was one of my all-time favorite actresses and comedians. When the younger generation comes to visit while I am Airstreaming, they are often a bit disappointed in my DVD collection as it features:
  • Movies
    • The Long, Long Trailer -- Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz
    • Forever Darling -- Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz
    • Mame -- Lucille Ball, Robert Preston, and Bea Arthur
    • Yours, Mine and Ours -- Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda
    • The Facts of Life -- Lucille Ball and Bob Hope
    • Fancy Pants -- Lucille Ball and Bob Hope
    • Miss Grant Takes Richmond -- Lucille Ball and William Holden
    • Sorrowful Jones -- Lucille Ball and Bob Hope
    • Lover Come Back -- Lucille Ball and George Brent
    • DuBarry Was a Lady -- Lucille Ball and Red Skelton
    • Stage Door -- Lucille Ball, Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, and Adolph Memjou
    • With Six You Get Egg Roll -- Doris Day and Brian Keith
    • The Ballad of Josie -- Doirs Day and Peter Graves
    • Where Were You When The Lights Went Out? -- Doris Day and Patrick O'Neal
    • The Glass Bottom Boat -- Doris Day and Rod Taylor
    • Send Me No Flowers -- Doris Day, Rock Hudson, and Tony Randall
    • Move Over Darling -- Doris Day and James Garner
    • The Thrill Of It All -- Doris Day and James Garner
    • That Touch of Mink -- Doris Day, Cary Grant, and Audrey Meadows
    • Lover Come Back -- Doris Day, Rock Hudson, Tony Randall
    • Please Don't Eat The Daisies -- Doris Day and David Niven
    • Pillow Talk -- Doris Day, Rock Hudson, Tony Randall, and Thelma Ritter
    • Teacher's Pet -- Doris Day, Gig Young, and Clark Gable
    • The Pajama Game -- Doris Day and John Raitt
    • Love Me or Leave Me -- Doris Day and James Cagney
  • Boxed Set of TV Series on DVD
    • Hazel -- Shirley Booth, Whitney Blake, and Don DeFore
    • My Mother the Car -- Jerry VanDyke, Miss Ann Sothern
    • Mister Ed -- Alan Young and Connie Hines
    • I Love Lucy -- Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley
One of the younger generation that spends time with us (10 years old) spent the better part of a half hour going through the collection and exclaimed . . . "there isn't anything that I want to see. Don't you have anything new?"

These DVDs can provide hours of enjoyment for me, but it seems that the younger generation just doesn't appreciate classic comedy.

It is like classic rock music, or jazz. Kids may not get it.

All of this nostalgia got me to thinkin...Would it be considered child abuse these days to force my kid's to watch only black and white comedies from the 40's thru the 50's for a month straight?

A very fun movie to watch! It is one of my Grandson Carl's favorite movies. I can't remember seeing him laugh so much the first time we got to watch it together!
