well it makes sense that they would build cars in China, it is there 3rd largest market. It doesn't mean they are importing them back to the US for domestic sales. Honda and Toyota make cars in the US, that are only sold here too.

I don't understand this comment since Ford is another of the many manufacturers investing and building vehicles in China.

GM's presence in China is nothing new. They have sold more than 3,000,000 Buicks there since 1999.

<<Mod Mode>> A reminder to keep the brand, or country origin bashing in check please.

Exclamation That's the way it is and you can't go back.

MY Dodge Truck was built in Mexico, but it doesn't even speak Spanish. Chrysler was owned by Mercedes at the time. Now its owned by Fiat.
Our Subaru was built in Indiana.
Susan's Smart Car (German) was made in France.
My Mercedes was built in Germany. How the heck did that happen.

Welcome to the 21st Century and the global market economy.

It's cheaper to build stuff where its going to be used.

Ken

P.S. Just because a video, made by who knows who, happens to be about GM doesn't make it a "GM video" in my book of definitions.

If you are a Ford fan, why does your user profile say "screw ecoboost" ?

Just tow vehicles here...
only 60% of that Ford F series and 50% of that Expedition, was made in America.
70% of that Ram was made in America.
61% of that Silverado is American made, 65% of that Tahoe and Suburban.

Glad your proud to be an American, but your Ford truck is a global mutt.

Ford has been building cars and trucks worldwide for 50 years. Ever hear of a Taunus or some of the other euro built Fords. Great to think they are all American but they truly aren't anymore.
Fiat owns 58% of Chrysler. The rest is owned by Canada and the UAW pension fund.

No argument with the parts coming from all over the world, my Ford was assembled in Kansas City. That makes it "Made in America" to me. And yes, I am very proud to be an American (most days).

Ok, folks, Most know I work for GM. A Little history and a comment.

The Chinese have had a love affair with Buick since the pre-WWII days of the "flying Tigers" and US (sorta) military staff cars which were Buicks.

GM has been building and selling Buicks in China for a number of years prior to the Bankruptcy and bailout.

Now for the comment: GM has expanded both exports and builds in China to include Chevrolet and Cadillac. Why is that bad? Is it bad that Toyota would export to the US and build plants to produce in the US? Bottom line...we live in a world economy where US manufacturers must play in a global market in order to thrive.

China is a fabulous emerging automotive market very much like the US was in the 1940s and 1950s. You should take heart that GM is as preferred in China as Toyota is in the US. The $$$$$$ come home, just like the Toyota $$$$$ go to Japan. In the same relative proportion.

It is a very odd and different game today than is was when I started my career. GM's joib is in China is to make sure that the Chinese people prefer us over their own domestically preferred products. Sound familiar?
