We bought the movie a few years ago from Amazon. Still can't figure out what brand the trailer is.

I've seen it several times, it's a lot of fun. I put it on the DVR this weekend to hopefully watch with my wife and daughter this week.

It's a New Moon . With a yellow Mercury convertible and a matching
yellow and white tooo long trailer. No holding tanks of any kind. If you
watch closely you will see a unusual hitch with a mounted wheel for
added weight control.

It was made by Redman who still make moble homes. That model was a 32 footer and in the mountain shoots they had to switch to a Lincoln that had a bigger motor as the Mercury could'nt pull it. After the movie came out the sales of Redman trailers really took off and they ended up building 6 plants in So. California.

The book was first by Clinton Twiss.

My favorite chapter was a troup of circus performers who had a too small TV. They had a routine down. Spotter yelled HILL. Driver floored it. If they didn't make it over the top the people in the back seat jumped out and chocked the wheels.

Passed on AS

If I remember correctly, when they were shopping for the trailer they passed up the Airstream in the showroom.

Just shows that even Lucy and Desi made mistakes -- that's the moment all their problems began!

The New Moon was built as a park model. Most would hire a trucking company to relocate it. I remember seeing several in trailer parks along Rte 66 in 1952. We (dad, mom, brother and I) were moving from Michigan to Ca. We were traveling towing a 26' travel trailer and overnighted in such parks along the way. No holding tanks meant no dry camping or boondocking.

Boy... don't bother doing a Google search for "New Moon Trailer" anymore! All you get are sneak peeks at teen vampire romance movies!

By the way, for whatever reason Lucy and Desi played Stacy and Nicky in the movie.

I did manage to find this wonderful photo (huge, too!) of the Long, Long Trailer premiere at the Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara, CA. Looks like the towed the movie rig there for the event.
Note the "slimp wheel" on the hitch!

Found at www.stevenhandelsmanstudios.com.
