Lotto is how high?

So the Lotto is up to $500,000,000. That's a half BILLION dollars. Man, that's a lotta zeros. When I win tomorrow night , my first stop is at the Airstream shop to buy a 34 footer. Next stop is at the local Ford dealer to buy an F250 extended cab with all the bells and whistles. Anybody else ready for an extended road trip? I'm buyin' the beer for the campfire and ribs for dinner.

Jim

Why not just buy the company?? Some guy did that with razors a few years ago.

And YES, count me in.

Jim:

You have two problems:

First - I already purchased the winning ticket; and

Second - Airstream is no longer manufacturing 34's (ocassionally they will do a special run).

Using Lotto Winnings to Buy Airstream

"Why not just buy the company?? Some guy did that with razors a few years ago."

Dave --

Thor Industries (parent of Airstream) market capitalization at close of market on March 29, 2012 is $1.7 billion. The lottery proceeds will not be enough to purchase the company.

You only have to be the controlling shareholder.

Done, but you gotta throw in the Excursion at a "reasonable price".

Courtesy of Forbes...

"If you do win, there’s only a 3% chance you’ll have the big prize to yourself,
ie: A 10.5% chance that if you win, you will be splitting the pot in two... ...and on to a 1.7% chance that if you win you’ll be splitting the prize 9 ways."

"So, how do you improve your expected payoff in Mega Millions? Pick numbers between 32 and 56. They are no more likely to be picked than smaller numbers, but they are less likely to be shared. That’s because a lot of buyers play hunches that involve birthdays."

Oh - and for a mere 176 Million you can buy ALL the possibilities and triple your money

Hey, a guy can dream, right? No offense to Dave, who has the other winning ticket, but I plan to build a one acre sized Airstream "Hanger" that will eventually house all my 'Streams from each decade of production. And the perfectly restored '65 Mustang convertible (Susan's). And the '56 Corvette (mine). And the new F250. And......

I don't care what you spend it on, but I do believe there should be a rule that it has to be spent in the Country of Origin.

A prize that size, generally disappears off shore to avoid tax, and all the poor people that contributed, (rich people don't buy lottery tickets) get no benefit from the money recirculating.

Perceptions of some other RV sites are that the winning ticket would allow one to purchase a new Airstream.

for arguments sake, lets say i DON'T buy 5, $1 lottery tickets each week.

$5 x 52 = $260 saved per year

NOT buying for 40 years is $260 x 40 = $10,400 in savings

With Compounded Interest that equals = a heck of a lot more money than i probably would have won based on the odds - and my luck.
