Looking for some good reading material!!
I'm looking for some suggestions on authors for my reading this summer.
I read Tony Hillerman's series over the summer and really enjoyed his style of writing.
I'm currently reading Edward Abbey's books and I'm also enjoying these.
So if you could suggest some authors who have these types of styles, I'd be greatful.
John

Books
My wife got me hooked on the Patricia Cornwell novels. I have really enjoyed them. I have one big book with 3 of her novels that I would be glad to pass on to you at Pedernales. I bought it at a charity auction for a dollar.

Outdoor humor
If you have a sense of humor and love outdoor activities like camping and fishing, Patrick McManus will blow you away. I have all of his books (short stories about outdoor humor) and get a laugh every time I read any of them. I highly reccommend.

Magician: Apprentice
Magician: Master
Silverthorn
A Darkness at Sethanon
A very good series, if your into Elves, Dwarfs and the such.

John,
That would be great!
Roger,
Sounds like what I'm looking for, humor & outdoors! Would you be interested in selling the complete series? If so, maybe you could sent it(I'd by the postage) to one of the Austin members that will be going to the Forum Rally on March 8th? I'd send you out a check prior to leaving on Tuesday Feb 25th.
X,
I've never been a sci fi/fanasty fan, but thanks for sharing!!

Two authors you will probably like. 1) William Kent Krueger (Same genre as Tony Hillerman- Indian connected dectective novels Iron Lake, Boundary Waters, and Purgatory Ridge.) All of them were good reads. If you liked Hillermann you will like these. 2) Michael Connley a series of well written detective novels. The Connley books are also available as audio books. I buy them to listen to on my hour long commute, then pass them on to my wife, then to two of our adult children. Audio books are expensive but we get our use out of them, and they really are great for about an hour at a time on long road trips.

Re: Pat McManus
Sorry John, I wouldn't part with my McManus collection for love or money but any bookstore would likely be happy to order them for you. Or you can order online from a site such as this:
http://www.salesstar.com/mcmanus.html
You can read one of his short stories here:

Purgatory Ridge
Roger,
I went to 4 local used book store and found this copy. William Kent Krueger must be a regional writer like Edward Abbey, because none of the store owners were familiar with him or Abbey.
I'm still looking for Pat McManus too!!

Reading...
Hi John.
My favourite read is Bill Bryson, he gets to the point in the most of funniest of ways, I still have fits of laughter...and he is very informative too, A walk in the woods, is his great outdoor adventure, walking the App:Chain...
Also he has one where he DRIVES across the States, searching for the ideal town...with names like Sunville...of which he re-names ----ville..lol.
Well good reading 2U, whatever U decide...
enjoy...Chris.....

Those are all good McManus books. I'm surprised you found them at a used bookshop. Most people I know won't part with theirs. Happy reading!
