looking for artlink....in the village

hello all

thought you might enjoy a little story about a member here artlink .

in another thread artlink clued us he'd be traveling to prairie village kansas, for the annual art fair.

this is very close to my rabbit hole, so i delayed leaving for arkansas just to meet him, a fellow airstream'n air' forum member....

i'd forgotten the date for this art fair. i usually go and this is the 50th year....which is pretty cool.

armed with my camera, wits, a triple soy latte and not much else, i set off....

looking for artlink in the village.....

after parking i decided to roam around just looking at displays, art forms, and people.....in the hopes i'd find artlink.

surely an airstreamer artist would stand out......right?

perhaps he does the iron/lime stone yard furniture seen here.....well that would be a little heavy to haul......

i asked the artist...."can you make a piece that will fit in my airstream?"

his reply......"huh?"

not him.....

i wandered some more.....

perhaps he does cartoons that parody common themes.......

i ask the artist......."have you done anything or rv travel or airstreams"

his reply......"no, do they still make those things? hey rv cartoons might be fun"

not him.......

i continued on.........

well these glass and copper tiki lights look cool......

i spoke to the artist......"these are really nice, have you got one in burgundy to match my limited awning?"

his reply......"what's a limited awning? can i help you to the medical station?"

no, still not artlink......

notice the women ignoring me as i asked "WHERE IS ARTLINK ?"

perhaps he hadn't made it here at all......

so at the point,
and somewhat discouraged,
i decided to find the artist parking lot
and look for something i did recognize......

an airstream.........

and there she was.......

i moved closer and confirmed....

seem i may see an 'air oval' in the rear window......

so this IS the home of a forums member.......

and there is even a pink flamingo near by!
(clink on the pic to see the bird)

why not venture closer, perhaps he's home.

clearly this is an experienced airstreamer.....

look how level that trailer is.....

and how high the nose is.....

who said kansas was flat?

also note the sticker collection....wally byam, tin can toursit, passport america, wyoming, yellowstone and the 'air oval'

i'd found the right rig for sure!

ahead i saw
a tanned lean artist
working a couple.....

they really seemed to enjoy his work.

so did i.

it was unusual and stood out.

i decided to watch them awhile......

the artist began to explain his technique.....

another curious fair goer stopped

he leaned....

this is what many did.....

why?

seeing a free moment, i approached the artist.....and said.....

"i really like your work, but they are all so big. i know we shouldn't buy art by size, but i need something for a small space..."

"how big?" he replied......

"something that wil fit on the wall of my airstream" i said.......

his eyes lit up,
he smiled big,
then laughed
then shook his head.....

i had found artlink......

well this was such fun, we had a nice chat, we talked airsteams and art and travel and repairs.
we talked about just how nice everyone is, on the forums and how helpful....and so on. and how much fun it is too meet them in person......and compare notes......

then he asked...

"so do you have a screen name......"

"2air' i replied....."

and we both laughed somemore......

it is great to meet the colorful and friendly people that are the forums.....

i'd found artlink in the village
and hopefully we will meet up again,
for camping or a beer or a friendly chat......

here is a picture from his portfolio......

and one more
a closer view
of the deep red passage

i'm drawn to this painting
it clearly comes
from some inner place
of the artist
he's sharing with us

or perhaps
its the taillights
of an airstream
in a tunnel
or could it be
from alice in wonderland
looking down and into........

cheers
2air'

the end

Sooo...did you buy the deep red passage apinting? I think it would compliment your hat quite nicely.

Seriously, thanks for sharing your adventure...I for one, got a kick out of it and also enjoyed artlink's work.

Thanks!

That was a very refreshing little vignette with a hapy ending! Thanks for taking the time to post your experience. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the colorful folks on the forum when I hit the road and head West in a week or so!

Some very cool art too! Too bad my 19CCD has no wall space!

How Delightful

Wonderful Vignette...

I felt as though I was on the adventure as well.

My interest was piqued when I read Artlink's post about heading to Praire Village. I lived there for three years as a young child. (3-6) And so I followed up.

2air' your description was excellent, Artlink, your work is wonderful

Thank you both.
