Lets talk HOCKEY

There seems to be at least a few posters on this forum that are interested in hockey.I have always been a big hockey fan.I guess it's second nature for a great many Canadians.
What are you favorite hockey teams?Who are your favorite players? How could the game be better?Who will win the Stanley Cup?
Let's get a good thread going.

shovel to shoot

I was raised in a small town in New Hampshire, we had to clear the snow to play on the ice on the lake. All I know about HOCKEY revolves around the Hub. 1 Nov. 1924
Eddie Shore, Lionel Hitchmen, Tiny Thompson, "Mr. Zero", Milt Schmidt, Bobby Baur, Woody Dumart, John "The Chief" Bucyk, Willie O'Ree,and the rest of the guys. Orr, Esposito, Hodge, Stanfield, Cheevers, Park, Bourque, Neely, and more to follow. I lived for hockey in high school in the 60's, even tho I had a skiing scholarship to a Ivy League school.
I'll always remain faithful to the BOSTON BRUINS and the Red Sox.

Well, of course the Ottawa Senators are going to come *this close* to winning the Stanley Cup, but drop the puck and pooch it up, as per usual....

San Jose, perhaps this year?

A bunch of my friends are all pumped to go and see a Junior game next week - Go Canada Go!!

Ottawa hasn't been the same since the Ray Emery situation. There is a lot of talk about breaking up the big 3 with Jason Spezza's name being shopped around. There could move him before the playoffs start.

San Jose looks very very strong this year. They seem to have what it takes but in the past have died during the playoffs.Maybe this year will be different.

Your friends are lucky to have the World Junior tournament in Ottawa and some other Ontario venues this year.It is usually great hockey and I look forward to it every year.

Only one Penguin at a time. The Wings made a great acquisition when they picked up Hossa from Pittsburgh.I believe he is the best two way player in the league.

Sidney Crosby is not doing bad for a Nova Scotia boy.

It looks like the Bruins have their best team since the 70's.Marc Savard is having a great year and picking up Chara from the Sens has strenthened up the blueline. They are a good defensive team and are strong in goal.
Looks like Bergeron has a concussion again.Hope he returns soon.

A Ranger fan chiming in here. Suffering after the boys in blue blew a four goal lead last night to loose to the Caps in overtime. That was almost as bad as them blowing a five goal lead last year to the Habs.

Regarding Avery...I would have him back on the Rangers in a New York minute. He is an instigator that can also score goals. Like him or hate him he is an impact player.

My favorite Ranger? Scotty Gomez. Have you ever seen a player glide the way he does?

My kids got tickets behind the net for the Rangers vs Habs game on Jan 7. My family knows to only shop for my Christmas gifts at Airstream.com or VintageTrailerSupply.com.

Merry Christmas y'all

Well, my friends are certainly looking forward to it - I'm hoping they'll actually remember the game...

As a kid and living on the east coast of Canada,I used to listen to hockey games on the radio. This was back in the late 60's and early 70's.The games I could get on the radio were New York Ranger games so they were my favorite team at the time.My favorite player was Rod Gilbert who played on a line with Vic Hadfield and Jean Ratelle.I think they were nicknamed the GAG(goal a game)line.Ed Giacomin was the goalie and altough they did not win any Stanley Cups they had a very good team.

Not really a hockey fan...but cause their in our backyard out here, gotta give a big...GO SHARKS!

With the 49'ers, Raiders, Giants, A's and Warriors all being in the dumpster for so many years...(maybe A's would be the exception)...it's refreshing to see the SHARKS winning at their record setting pace...hope they can keep it up and bring that old silver 'cup' home to the SF Bay Area for a spell!

Favorite current player? Alexander Ovechkin...not afraid to shoot and would rather go through you than around you. I'm an avid Minnesota Wild fan even though our team is on a skid right now. Would love to see us trade Gaborik for anyone with offensive skills and durability. Would trade Kim Johnnson (defenseman) for a bag of pucks.

I can say it but time will tell.I certainly would not bet against it.They look very good so far this year.Good puck movement, flow and good decision making. The first big test will be on New year's eve against the USA.I am looking forward to the game.

Canada 7 USA 4

Anyone else catch this game yesterday? It had it all and had to be the best junior hockey game I have ever had the pleasure to watch.
It was a fast paced game, had some great goals and saves and its fair share of controversy.
I really hope to see these two teams battle it out for the gold medal later in the tournament.

My kids went to see Sweden vs Russia - they said it was a great game.

But the Canada-USA game: wow! We watched the game during our New Year's Eve celebrations. Plenty of controversy is right - but it was such an exciting game, especially at the end!

Friends of mine were at the Kazakhstan-Canada game a few days ago, and while it was pretty painful to watch, it was apparently hilarious to see so many fans dressed up like Borat...
