Land Yacht sub-forum

I could not find a LY forum?
Am I missing something?

I am intrigued by their beautiful interiors and wanted to see some pix/get some info?

A search didn't turn up much?

Thanx, Bill

Hey Bill,

Try this...it should get you there...they are no longer making the Class A Motorhomes.

I must be confused (not the first time!). I was looking at some pix of a beautiful yacht-like interior of an AS. The woodwork was gorgeous, I am 99% sure it was an older AS travel trailer, NOT a MH? All the captions/descriptions referred to it as a Land Yacht.
Wasnít there a AS TT model line called LY? It is listed on the AS website table of trailer weights, etc from 89-90 (including the infamous 5th wheel).
Am I crazy?

Bill

Land Yacht

I am confused as well but we have a 1969 27' International Overlander Land Yacht. It has dark wood interior....it was before the tambour doors were used. pj

This is a confusing issue because there were several Land Yacht trailers, IIRC, and there are two models of Motorhomes that were marketed under the Land Yacht moniker: one was the first fiberglass sided motorhome whose production started before the discontinuation of the aluminum bodied Classic motorhome and overlapped with the square nosed fiberglass sided motorhome.

Bill - On the vintage trailers, Land Yacht was simply a package trim level. AS brought back the Land Yacht designation as a name for the class A motohomes from about 89'-99'. That designation was also used for what we typically refer to as "squarestreams", including the 5th wheel.

Bill -

I believe that info refers to the "squarestreams". Check out this link for a few pics and one more here.

Quote:
The Airstream Land Yacht was produced from 1989 through 1991. Airstreamers still call it a SQUARESTREAM. It didn't sell...perhaps because at that time only "classic styled" Airstreams were allowed in the club.

Thanx GP, lots of good reading!

But...still not what I was looking for. Maybe the yacht-like interior pix I saw were one of the other "trim levels" or custom work.
Wish I had saved the link...

Oh well, the search continues.

Thanks again for all the good stuff...so many good folks on this board!

The name Land Yacht was a generic at Airstream. They used it both on many TT over the years and some motor homes.I have a 1989 Land Yacht TT some call squarestream, but Land Yacht was also used on motor homes that same year.
I have photos of inside my Land Yacht (squarestream) if you would like to see them.Might also look under squarestream in the trailer forum of this site.

It's confusing.........Airstream has had different systems of naming models and lines over the years, and it seems did not pay too much attention to mixing them up when they felt like it, at least that's my impression. But, there were 3 different trim lines Standard (have never seen one) Land Yacht and International the top trim line, at least in Vintage trailers. But, for example Sovereigns (originally called Sovereign of the Road) as far as I can tell was only made as an International. and Trade Winds were only made as Land Yachts. Soverigns used to be only 31 footers but then they started making smaller ones and they make several different size and model Excellas. I may be wrong, but like I said it's confusing and Iv'e given up on trying to figure it out. My life is complicated enough.

We're all confused...or we're all right A.S. did like to mix things up quite a bit. My 73 is a Sovereign International Land Yaught, with the unfortunate seventies interior...but the name clicks AS for not finding the LY forum...I think you just did Seems most of us end up staying on the main forum and the sub forum is seldom used. You should be able to search through pic though and find any number of land yaught configurations. NOt mine yet though...my refugee from a deer lease, well it is not ready for daylight yet.
