La Grande, OR
Anyone know much about La Grande, OR? I am thinking about applying for a job with the university there. Cost of living, local culture, and so forth are all of interest. Thanks!

Ask Michelle, (thecatsandi) she was staying there when I met her on my way to Salem several years ago. I think she was there several months if not for the entire season.
That's home to my little "Orie." Picked him from a box of puppies in front of Wal-Mart.

We are originally from Oregon and can say that any town East of the Cascades is more Idaho/Wyoming in nature than West coast culture. It is absolutely beautiful out there, but think cowboys and roughnecks, rather than hippies and eco-people.

But unlike Seattle and Portland, the sun shines often in the winter. 
I wouldn't mind living there at all, but would prefer Bend.

Applying at Eastern Oregon University are you? La Grange is a small town in the middle of a lot of beautiful country. Local valley is a huge farming community, Logging is the secondary economy. Not much nightlife. Movie theatre, bowling, go-karts. lots of places to take photos. Wallowa Lake is not far away, Great camping. Boise is about 2.5 hours drive away. Portland 4.5 hrs.
She is hot in the summer and can be quite cold in the winter.
