Has anybody been to see the king tut exhibit in chicago? http://www.fieldmuseum.org/tut/exhibition.asp

I was thinking about checking it out. Are there decent campgrounds anywhere close or should I drive up? ideas?

Smile I was there in 1977!

Glad to see its back, thanks so much for posting this. We actually boondocked with a moho in the stadium parking lot, and had to spend the night before the exhibit on the sidewalk in front of the Field Museum to make sure we got tickets to get in. I wonder if its necessary to do that this time.

Either way it was worth it then and sounds like its bigger and better this time! I look forward to hearing about places to camp thereabouts!

You can get tickets ahead of time. Might make a crazy rally....

Now when he was a young man,
He never thought he'd see,
(King Tut)
People stand in line,
To see the boy king...

We're planning to see King Tut in Chicago this fall! Won't have the Airstream with us though.

We would really like to go see this, but we'll fly. I don't know if we'll have time to get out there before it leaves. Next stop is London, maybe we should aim to catch it there

I'm about an hour south of Chicago. I'd be quite happy to have campers in my driveway (it's only 400 feet long) & take you all for a boat ride!

We ordered tickets for the family a few months ago and will be going next month. Not sure if there is any difficulty in getting tickets now.

My daughter is pretty pumped about it... we studied Ancient Egypt a couple years ago. She wanted to visit the Valley of the Kings at the time....this will have to suffice.

We have a site reserved at Indiana Dunes State Park for the trip. Our first stay at the Dunes was last year in September...it was a nice and quiet time to visit. Just a short distance from the park entrance there is a station for the commuter train line into the city. We plan to use it to get into the city for the Tutankhamun exhibit. That might be further out than you want to be. The timetable I have from last year shows it is about an hour ride. Our entry time at the Museum is 11:00 am so not an excessively busy time to ride the train. We might only use it one day and take our truck into the city the other days.

Another very nice campsite on the extreme northwest side of the city is Paul Wolff Campground, a Kane county park with camping (electric only). Worked nicely for us when we went to a conference in Hoffman Estates earlier this year. Quite a distance from the Field Museum though.

Thanks for reminding me I have to get an updated timetable.
