KEVLAR Airstream

I got to thinking , a one of a kind Airstream , Textron inc.makes Kevlar fiber strands in my city. The sheets are 4 x 8, how cool would it be to have a airstream shell made of Kevlar, stronger than steel and lighter than Aluminum.I think the Raptor and space shuttle is made of Kevlar.

After one of my great backins, this last week, getting ready for the Tin Can Tourists,I wish I had a Kevlar rear on my Overlander. Dave

hey

Would that be cost effective?? Wouldn't that be flexible? What would the interior be made of? Could you attach cabinets to that? Interesting thought!

Yeah, but it would be hail proof. Wish mine had been made of Kevlar last spring.

Cost ? I know a 17 Ft.Kevlar Canoe or Kayak cost approx $3000-$5000. I don't think there would be any cost saving's.

Actually it would work but you would still need the aluminum ribs inside to attach the sheets. An interior form, impregnate with epoxy or resin and cook. Voila! a shell of Kevlar. A Few advantages: less damage by hail. Does not conduct electricity, Lighter. Dis-advantates: More expensive to fix if damaged, lightning strikes would be very bad.

Kevlar is a very good paint adhesive characteristics. Many jet fighters have metallic paints. You would never have to shine your Airstream again.

Planes are made of Kevlar, so are fishing poles and golf clubs why not Airstream? Kevlar low prices are making it doable.
