doorgunner, for some reason I just saw this. Oh God no, not even close. I had a slow start last year, and did some major honey-do stuff over the summer. I didn't even keep a record. I'm guessing about 300 miles. I did get in 8 miles yesterday with these old geezers though

Not a Kayak but a Mad River Adventure 14 canoe. On Eleven Mile Canyon Reservoir July '14. Little travelers wearing full floatation vest. Canoe is very stable on the still water. Have not tried it on any fast moving liquid. About 75 lbs. Not too bad to load on the camper shell. Always travel with it just in case there's some water nearby needing some visitation.

Any Kayaking ASers heading to Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness this summer? We're going to base out of Fall Lake Campground in mid July and do a bunch of day trips.

Just sold my Carolina 14 the other day because I didn't like it. It had ZERO rocker and you almost had to get out and physically turn the thing to get it to change directions.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to replace it with, and having trouble finding something the size I want (sit inside touring above 14', and capable of carrying 325-350lbs) with a large enough cockpit for me to get into. I'm 6', 220lbs.

Any suggestions?

Maybe. Our son has a summer internship in Hibbing, MN so we're planning a trip up that way this summer. My husband (nilesrob) is the real kayaker in the family and I imagine he'll want to explore the waters a bit when we're up there.

not sure when we'll be up that way though yet.

Cool, keep us posted when the plans firm up. Maybe we can paddle a little together or at least have a beer!

While not owning a Airstream currently we did buy a kayak for use before and during our travels. I have been reading this thread for a while and see most people get the nice wooden, made by hand deal, or the flo mold type.

I got to thinking about hauling and security of one or two boats on truck and decided to look at inflatables. I read a lot of reviews on Amazon and come to the decision to get a Sea Eagle boat.

I found one local the larger size a SE370 with pro package a couple years old for less than half of new.

http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Eagle-SE37.../dp/B001ASRVDK

We have not gotten a chance to use it thus far but when the weather warms up we will give it a go.

When it rolled up and every thing is in the bag it a bit heavy some 50ish lbs. They sell a back with shoulder straps which would make hauling ti around easier.

Would love a nice wooden one but i don't boat enough to justify the glamour..

Carl, I think you mean to say "performance"' not "glamour". Enjoy the eagle when the weather turns, and be careful

right,,, growing up around boats the older wooden types, ie chris craft and such, were revered for the glamor vs performance factor. But i get your meaning.

With sub zero temp in central NC for the past week it going to be a while before water gets warm enough to venture out.

We have friends with a couple of molded boats and we look forward to joining them on the water, with out all the car top carriers, straps, and wind resistance..

Paddle Rally in Fall 2015

My husband and I are kayakers and we just recently bought an Air Stream to further indulge the habit! We're interested in finding like-minded folks.

We're planning a trip to the South Carolina / Georgia coast in the late fall for camping, kayaking and fun! If anyone out there wants to join us, please do.

We'll be at the following campgrounds on these dates:

Huntington Beach SP, SC: October 23 - 26
Skidaway Island SP, GA: October 26 - 29
Crooked River SP, GA: October 29 - 31.

We'll be paddling unless the weather turns rotten or the tides aren't favorable. We're not hard-core paddlers. We're just in it for the fun!

Lynn - if you plan a trip to the Great Lakes anytime, let us know, we'd love to connect and kayak! Lots of fantastic places in northern Michigan to dip the paddles. No sharks, no salt.

Sounds interesting! Paddling on the SC/GA coast (as well as upper Michigan) sounds enticing. I just had an MRI on my shoulder earlier today, so we are keeping paddling plans for this year a bit fluid at the moment.
