Hi Guy, I was referring to this post:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f161...ml#post1201521

I know nothing about Malone racks. What I read looks good. Here is some discussion comparing Malone and Thule racks:

Malone J-Cradles Vs. Thule Hull-a-Port - Canoeing / Kayaking

Maybe someone else can chime in that has experience with Malone. Good luck.

Thanks! That is a fine looking boat. Was told they plan to start shipping those out within the week.

Kayak length

If I were looking at single touring kayaks, what impact does length have on the experience? Keep in mind that I would generally be day tripping, so no massive need to carry gear - more like a day pack, camera bag - I do want to be able to take pictures while boating. I love lakes, rivers, definitely ocean but more bays, inlets, harbors than surfing or venturing into big seas, and not looking for a rudder. I like something that is efficient paddling and cruises easily, value that more than stability. So, having said all that, would difference would, say, a 12 foot boat have over a 14?

Kayak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here are a couple shots from the Coshocton, OH to Marietta trip. Gliding through the fog on Morning 4 with 85 miles behind us and just 25 to go. The fellow with the white beard is 75 years young. This was his 5th trip down the Muskingum; We call him "Chief Musky". The man can paddle.

For some reason, I'm the only one with a halo above my head, hummmm.

Looks peaceful, doesn't it? Photo comes from Luis R. out fishing for salmon on the American River near Sacramento.

As mentioned in post 440. This is the Hulavator as the kayak is placed on it.

With my kayak I placed the frames far enough apart, to provide greater support while traveling, that it takes 2 people to put the kayak up. That is not a function of the weight but rather just the fact that my arms are not long enough to reach both frames at the same time.

I just really enjoy lookin at your craftsmanship.
too bad youre suffering from short arm syndrome. something to do with paddling or using a table saw? lol
also your sig line indicates 2004 excursion, but that looks like a burb in the pic, looks just like mine!

you guys should look a few posts back at my "rear loader". it really works and can be easily assembled in a few hours. It takes longer to "get" the parts than to construct!

Lodi Nile

This post is a bit late, since it was mid-Sept when I visited DOORGUNNER. We had couple paddles on Lake Natoma, a world-class training ground for top US kayakers and rowers--I had no idea. Up till then, I thought all the cool people were on the Charles River in Boston. Whoa!

Here's the Lodi Nile, a fun paddle with the local kayak shop. I'm glad the sign didn't include kayaking...

For those of you who don't know Tim, he is deep into building lighter, faster boats. Here he is experimenting with new composite materials for yet another kayak that will leave me in his wake...that's possibly also got something to do with the fact that he actually works out.

Tomales Bay

Just another plug for Tomales Bay. Put in at the CA state boat launch next to Nick's Cove, then paddle across the bay to several beaches and coves.

We don't get the 70+ days on the water that DOORGUNNER gets, so we go for quality.

I've heard you can build a boat like this that weighs only 12 lbs. That would be the single person model, without the fancy gunnel or seats, of course. When I was at the Skin Boat School a customer came in to skin his frame and said his objective was to backpack the boat up to a mountain lake (along with all the other standard stuff in his pack, like tent, sleeping bag, food, and fishing gear).

Nice shots Zep!!
I'm glad to see you recognize the Northern California coast as Quality paddling!
You know this guy with the ultra lite boat to wander thru the woods with-- The whitewater guys in this area routinely hike into remote areas to float some of the rivers here.
I'm only up to 78 days on the water, been sluffin off, But crab season opens in 2 weeks!!!
Got a few new traps to add to my Promars, I'll have 5 total on my new Wadefish 2.0.

Tuilik

Fabulous shot from 1900 of a tuilik made from cured walrus intestine. I would have guessed that it was modern mylar.
