Paddle with a big (Greenland) stick

The skin-on-frame folks are out in force at SSTIKS (South Sound Traditional Inuit Kayak Symposium) in June on Hood Canal, Union, WA. I paddle a Necky Eliza (red) with one of those great Greenland paddles. Paddle on! South Sound Traditional Inuit Kayak Symposium

Yay! We got a kayak (on steroids)! On Saturday, we picked up our Hobie Tandem Island. It can be used as a kayak, but it also has pedals and a sail. It's a trimaran. Now . . . if the weather would cooperate, we could try out our new toy.

Congrats! We love our Hobie Tandem Island! We're in Bodega Bay, CA right now (without our boat) and it's so windy and sunny and beautiful it's hard to stop wishing we had it with us!

Congrats! Did you figure out how to fit it on the roof of the Grand Cherokee?

Hi Laura, I follow your blog and looked at your car-topping posts with great care. You helped us avoid buying the expensive rollers and gave us the encouragement to get the TI. Thanks! Love your blog!

Without the Airstream, we had no problem bringing it home. We used the Thule Goalpost to extend the rooftop of the Jeep, and purchased cradles from Hobie. The problem will be when we are also towing the trailer. We are waiting for a front receiver. Once Paul installs that, then the real fun begins! I have a couple of pictures of the day we brought the Hobie home, but I'll post more when we have the full rig set up.

The first picture was taken at the shop. The second picture shows how much overhang we have, which is why we have to shift it all over the front with a front receiver. You can see the black rudder sticking up in the air to get a sense of how long it is. Poor little Jeep. It's so short!

Lisa: I'm so glad, and thanks!! Yeah the goalpost looks like fun (but cool that you can do that at all, really). I'll be curious to see how it works out for you guys when you get the front one installed. Definitely want to see pics of the whole operation once you've got it goin.

Heroes on the water

Nancy and I volunteered to assist with this program saturday. WE loaded up friday afternoon and drove 150 miles to the lake. pitched a tent and were in the middle of a frog sonata. The next day was full of activity. If you ever get the opportunity to help at one of these events you will never feel better about helping someone enjoy so much of what we kayakers take for granted.
Here's a few links about the program,Kelsey Bass Ranch Report 6/2/2012

and another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=RcZuQXn4KSY

Great thread! Now if I can only figure out how to transport all our toys at once - dogs, bikes, kayaks, fire pit...

A couple of shots from Land Between the Lakes a couple of years back. You meet the nicest animals in a kayak!

First solo outing

Tumbleweed, now residing in eastern Washington state, spent several days at Charbonneau Park on the Snake River. This was my first solo outing in my wonderful 1965 Caravel. When not relaxing at the camp, I paddled my kayak in the river. Wonderful!

Jeep, Airstream & Hobie

This is our set-up. The Thule goalpost attaches to a front-end receiver, and Paul loads the Hobie from the front of the Jeep. It is easier than loading from the back because the goalpost can be lowered and then raised in place. There is more than enough clearance for the Airstream.

For most of our camping trip, Lake Diefenbaker was SO still. We only opened the sail a few times. We had a great time, though.

So the year is half over and I've managed to only get on the water kayaking 41 days. But I've had a few rewarding paddles. I wish I used my trailer as much as I use my yak.I'm still hoping for 100 water days this year, we'll see.July is a water intense month for me!
Keep up the great pics everyone, nice to see all the spots everyone is enjoying.
