Any South Carolina paddlers out there? I work for a small company that is making me move from Kayak Heaven to South Carolina. We are stoked for sea kayaking. I was wondering if there are good spots on the East Coast. I do look forward to warm water Kayaking though.

We will be in Columbia South Carolina. Any suggestions? Good clubs? Places to paddle without getting eaten by an Alligator, Shark, Snapping Turtle, Drunk Boater?

Im not sure of the exact location (thinking NW) but I read an article where they went on a 10-12 day excursion using a kayak. Pull up Google maps and you'll find plenty of places close by. Nothing like the intercoastal or ocean but I found my OK prowler was still a blast on a river or lake when I moved to Charlotte from Camp Lejeune.

oh yea, Camp Lejeune, 1969 I remember that place, not much paddling going on there.

Hey Laura, No way was I wanting any harm to come your way. First off - do not pull your yak on a 2 way road, that oncoming traffic is dangerous plus at night their lights will blind you, just stick to the snow covered hills and have fun sledding in your yak.!!
or maybe wait for the ice to thaw, or take a road trip somewhere warm.

Is Linda going to put it together?

Can I assume that is a CLC kit?

A 14? Sounds like you guys are going surfing! That new Pinguno from Pygmy is about the same size, a real sport boat, not for touring, that's for sure.

Hey Zep

When you were here, sadly Linda Lu was not. She's quite petite, 106 lbs with her paddling gear on. So a 14 footer suits her perfectly. We are more into "moving" water than the flat stuff.Last summer at Tahoe it was blowing pretty good, white caps, 2 foot chop, steady 20 mph wind.We looked out and she said I'm game, so we put in at D.L. Bliss protected cove and got the full deal as we went around the point, After about 15 minutes to weather she says, I'm not having a lot of fun.How do we turn around in this stuff?. That's where training kicks in. We rafted up and with one hand on my paddle I crossed the wind, which immediately pushed the bows downwind, Then the constant surfing back to the lee side of the point. about 4 minutes to get back. Point being is she was running away from me downwind!! I had to paddle to keep up. what a fun ride.
Here's my other paddle partner (remember her) waiting for me to load the boat.

You put the 14' together already!? If so, I'm guessing you had it in hand weeks before you posted the photo of the kit.

For you West Coast kayakers, I love the [free download] WaveLength Magazine. You can subscribe, but it's a bit expensive for 4 issues a year.

The articles are top notch, about evenly divided between technique, locations, and equipment. It's obviously advertiser supported, but it's got more depth than any of the mag rack kayaker/canoe magazines.

Hard copies are free up in the northwest. I have no connection to them, but found a copy at the Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend and have been downloading ever since.
