Can someone tell me what this white thingamajig-bob is in front of the reflector?

That so-called thing-a-ma-bobber is a rear light indicator for when you're towing your rig. It tells you in the mirror if all of your lights are working when you apply the brakes or use the turn signal. Pretty cool feature especially if you're traveling by yourself.

It's call a "tail light monitor."

It works by using fiber optics.
