Just Bought a Flashlight...

I just bought a flashlight - a very big, 70 pound, 100,000,000 candlepower flashlight. I am so excited to get it and start playing with it that I just have to tell everybody!

Speaking of flashlights

I'll dig up a photo of my carbon-arc searchlight....

Until then, enjoy one of my favorite links.

well, I think at least 1100 wired in series-parallel should do the trick for a few minutes.....

This baby will need 22-28 volts DC supply @ 58 amps (give or take) plus a 120v A.C. source for the igniter. Total power is about 1600 watts - bright for a short-arc xenon tube.
This was a surplus military light used for illuminating whatever needed. It has an black I.R. filter for night vision use as well.
I am wondering how cool it would be to mount this on our motorhome.......

Just in case you hear a strange noise in the middle of the night while parked at Walmart? Just look for the guy with a suntan in the morning.

What I'd do, and I know its terribly wrong, is post over at RV net inquiring about what kind of contractor generator would power it for use on your camping trips. Why not stir the hornets a little?

I can easily power this with 1 Honda EU2000 - and I have 2 of them with a parallel kit.

I have a desert property I can pretty much do as I please, make noise as I want, etc. So I used to stir the pot over there once in a while about my 4 kw sound system. Of course people assumed I was camping in a quiet campground and let me have it!

Well......on my 40 acre property - I also can do pretty much as I damned well please! Including illuminating my little flashlight. As long as I do not illuminate planes on the Mustang 5 approach, I am good.... That plus I will let the sheriff and volunteer fire dept know I am lighting this baby so they can deal with the calls that are sure to come in.

Hi, it would be cool to mount this on your motorhome, facing backwards, for the vehicle behind you with his high beams on.

It said in the technical manual that it can damage the eyes at 320 meters. I might not try that point backwards.... But it would be good for finding your camping spot at night, especially if you are pulling in after dark at an astronomy gathering - hehehe.

Maybe you could also broil steaks under it! Let us know if it is effective at chasing bears off. :-)

Ummm, yes. Some might fear a spaceship has landed.

Seriously, what are you REALLY planning to do with it? You could light up an entire campground with that thing!

Might be great for boondocking.

Well, right now, I am only planning to play with it and get it running - have some fun with it. It is just a toy for now.

I am sure that I will be able to find some more serious uses for it later.

I got it!!!

It arrived yesterday. The box it came in was damaged, but hey - its a tank light, it was fine.

Now all I need is a couple of deep cycle batteries and some cable and I can fire it up... Hmmm, lets see, where can I get 2 deep cycle batteries?
