It's sooooo hot here in Chattanooga the sun's gone from shine'n' to beat'n' down!

I'm over it. It's like being in the devil's kitchen with every pot at a full rolling boil. I can barely get near the Airstream for the heat radiating off. Going on 8 days of temps from 100-105, 4 broken records (maybe number 5 today), wokring on the hottest August on record, and a rainfall deficit near 15 inches this year. I'm hoping for a cool breeze of 92 degrees with maybe a drop or two of rain next week.

Chattanooga's toast right now . . . literally.

Not complaining that I'm in Sin City but...

The birds have to use pot holders to pull worms out of the ground, and farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.

I'm right there with ya! We haven't seen rain in a VERY long time. The temp (thermometer in kitchen window) at 6:30 pm was 98 and at 8:20 (after the rain) it is 71! We sat on the porch swing listening to the rain for a while. It was pure heaven.

Celebrating Rain

Just came in from a faculty reception for Macon State College and we had to use an umbrella in downtown Macon. Walking in the rain was wonderful!
During the three hours we were away, Forsyth had a full inch according to our gauge.

Those who go for extended periods without the refreshment of rain know why we are so giddy in Georgia.

It is 74 at 10pm and this is the lowest temp. I have seen in several weeks.

The thunder is still rumbling; maybe we will have some more.

This morning I took a short cut through Talmadge Park (small park next to the Capitol Education Center, at grade on top of underground parking deck, downtown Atlanta) and the magnolia trees look dead--the leaves are all brown and curled up, the hedges were all brown and dead looking, the purple hearts were faded yellow!, and the annuals were all dead and leafless. That is the worst I have ever seen that park. However, I can understand. I don't know if there is any irrigation in the planter beds, but the park is on top of a parking deck so there is no deep dirt to hold any moisture and the entire surface is paved with brown brick pavers! I bet the last three weeks of 100 plus weather has been relentless on that little park. I know it seems noticeably hotter than the surrounding sidewalks that have the benefit of shade trees. Even they are looking drab, too.

We have the wilting vegetation here too, leaves dropping like it's fall and the grass is crispy. Hot here again today, but somehow 98 degrees didn't seem as bad. Hey Azflycaster, I don't know how you Arizona folks do it, even if it is a "dry" heat.

After seeing the news lately I have no right to complain and have everything to be thankful for. My home is dry and intact, I have A/C, and there are no fires coming up the ridge towards my house. I believe I can deal with the heat much better than with a flood.

See, I told you I had a lot to be thankful for. Unlike Arizona, at least we're not roasting in the Tennessee Valley at 100+ anymore. A couple days of showers has done wonders.
