Just got back from Columbia, Mo. moving my daughter into her dorm. It was 107 when we got there. It had 'cooled' to 103 by the time we left.

Tom, we actually didn't drive this year. Did take the big riveted aluminum tube of a 757 up to Anchorage to save time and gas.

Today we're up in Denali National Park and the gas to get us out of dodge and on the way to Wrangles National Park tomorrow was $3.38 a gal.

The weather up here today was overcast (clouds walking) and the temps didn't get out of the 60's for a high.

Donna,

Where are you in relation to Bozeman? Do you think paying for 30amp service at next year's International (June 28 - July 4) would be advised?

Thanks,

Randy

I can't say as I blame you with the current fuel prices and the reputations that the Can-Am highway has for eating up tires. At least you did arrive in riveted aluminum though! Can't criticize anyone for that.

It's so hot outside that the Kudzu is actually wilting here in ol' Jawja.

It was exactly 100 degrees on the screened portch when I started working on the Airstream at 5:00 o'clock. Man, I had to come inside for a while.

Cooler in Death Valley?

35 miles south of Jim & Susan and it is 91 at 8:30pm.
And it's dark outside already!!

One day last week I headed home from work in downtown Atlanta. I live approximately 25 miles (via interstate and county roads) south of downtown Atlanta. As I passed the Langford Freeway (Lakewood Freeway to us longtime Atlantans) I pressed the external temperature monitor on my A/C unit. It read 99 degrees at 6:05 PM. Less than a half-a-mile down the road I approached the Cleveland Avenue exit on I-85 and it had just rained and there was a steamy mist in the air and water was still standing on the pavement. I pressed the external temp monitor again and it read 86 degrees. I drove about a mile to mile-and-a-half to the Riverdale exit where it was bright and sunny and there had been no rain. I pressed the temp monitor again and the external temperature was 100 degrees at 6:07 PM! There was a 14 degree difference in temperature within 2 miles because of the rain!

Come on, rain! We've been a good month and a half without significant rainfall here in our little burg. Rains north of us, rains south of us, just no rain ON us. This mimics last summer and several previous summers--not good for the general welfare. Now I know that many of you are overwhelmed by your rainfall. Can't we just spread it around??? Also, we've had several weeks of high 90's-low 100's, with a single day break for a couple of days. Sigh. "They" (weather forecasters) are promising that the persistent rainfall north and west of us in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois is going to be pushed south with a Canadian influence (THANKS, Canada!) tomorrow and the 7 day projection is for 80's and low 90's the next seven days with hope of good rain. Isn't it ironic the way some get so much, too much, while others go beggng. I guess a good parallel with life could be made here. So, meanwhile the heat goes on. . .~G

Well, I wouldn't call it significant. It was maybe a 500 foot stretch of the interstate and then it was back to sun and heat!

I was gathering field data yesterday in an unairconditioned truck and on the way to the site, we found out the heater control valve was stuck on. 6 hours of riding in the Mississippi delta with brutal heat. It was cooler standing outside than riding even though the tar on the road was oozing to the surface. I'm too old for this stuff!

Well, we had the heat for a long time, and now it seems like its been raining for weeks! Actually, the rains only began a week ago. Just seems that way. Okay, NO MORE RAIN! I'm growing moss on my north side! They say we are pretty well out of the rain here in Minnesoooota now. Than goodness. I'm ready for FALL!

We are finally getting a break in the heat. Last night we had quiet a thunderstorm. Lots of lightning and thunder. We really needed it. Unfortunately, Chicago got pummeled yesterday about time for school to let out. They were having 70 MPH winds in the downtown area! 1300 tree incidents! At least we only got thunder and lightning with our rain.

I had to fix the air conditioner by working on the roof of the airstream yesterday. Fortunately it was only low 90's. It's been over 100 most of August... near Colton/San Bernadino, CA.
