I have a friend at work who has over 30 years in our state government department just like I do. He is very liberal while I am conservative. We laugh at each others positions and banter back and forth. I do not let his comments upset me nor do my comments upset him. We have learned over the years to respect the fact that we each have an opinion and a right to express that opinion. We are careful how far we go with it though. I look at it the same way on the forum. There is no way over 20,000 people are going to agree on every comment made on here nor should they. Every post should be given the respect it deserves whether you agree with it or not. As to the ads, I'm here to gain knowledge and to possibly pass on my experiences with the 2 Airstreams I have purchased. I haven't seen the biker chick ad but have seen others. I go right past them and get to the heart of the matter, learning more about Airstreams.

Well I for one don't see that there is any reason to foist my personal opinions and beliefs and wants and want nots on anybody else, and I usually just ignore the ads, or don't even see them. After all, this forum is about Airstreams, not a public opinion board to air one's personal ideas and attenmpts to control other people's thoughts and lives, which in my opinion (there, I fell into the sticky trap) should be taken to some other venue. I think it should be kept to Airstreams and other like fun topics and personal rants should be left out of it. I don't come here to read this sort of thing, I come here to learn about Airstreams and what can be done to make them better places to be. I don't even know why I read this thread, it just ticks me off in the first place. Sandy

do no touch that dial....

the paid ad package is what it is...

and pretty easy to ignore.

linking the ads here ONLY gives them longer run times and more attention.

people with rvs WATCH movies, so a movie ad package isn't a big stretch...

right NOW i'm bothered by the pineapple express movie ad...

some folks worship pineapples AND i've notice the price has gone UP at the local grocer for fresh/cut sweet yellow gold!

these ads are part of the evolution of sites like this and SO MUCH easier to skip...

than the full-page-refresh-the-screen-see-NO-forums-just-ADS-thing that was tried 2 years ago,

WOW that was not fun either.

search it out, there were several threads on it, b4 it was kibosh'd

just like product placement in most entertainment, POSTS HERE are filled with the above...

which is much harder to identify, avoid or not be influced by...

in the airstream zone...

I want to note that for all the complaining over this thread, it's very popular. Controversy is always popular. Offensiveness also is popular. Humans like gossip too. Sex (biker chic, for ex.) also is quite popular; without it none of us would be here typing away.

I think trying to strike a balance between what's ok and what's not is very difficult and the moderators do a pretty good job (except when I disagree with them).

The point is well taken this is Forum is private property and the 1st Amendment protects us from government censorship.

Speakin' of politics & Paris Hilton...

Yeah, the biker chick... puts the dating chick to shame...

But now, back to politics... this was funny. Guess she's moved on from Airstreams & life with Nichole... guess this is the chance one takes when they use a well-heeled individual w/media connections in a disparaging political ad...

So just when I thought this thread had died its wretched death, I have to ask....is it safe to click on that link? I'm not too sure sure I could take very much of Paris Hilton's idiocy tonight.

It's a spoof of Paris on herself playing off the political ad... she hits upon all the Paris cliches and fires back for her name being used. Funny since she's been a source of... uh, amusement on the forums.

The cleverness is not hers, was done by a writer that "seized" the political ad as an opportunity. Whole thing was done in about 2 hours while she was in the Hamptons "on vacation". She actually memorized the whole script... all by herself...

That boggles the mind, in and of itself.

On edit: almost makes one want to start a new thread called "Moron Alert!". You know, kinda like when CAPT Kirk would holler "Red Alert" from the bridge. But that would definitely become political after about the third post and then we'd all be in trouble.

I've seen the Paris Hilton ad several times today and she doesn't at all seem like a moron. Her energy plan makes more sense than most such plans and it's her best acting yet. It's very well done and it only took a couple of hours to make; most commercials take days. She makes McCain look pretty bad which is payback for him using her insultingly in one of his ads. The whole thing surprised me. Maybe it proves a dissolute youth doesn't mean one can't grow up (worked for me).

Now we've gone from biker chic to Paris Hilton. What does all this mean?

The Match.com girl is back. She looks like she's dumbstruck. Some guys like that sort I guess.

Now Gene, I've come to respect you greatly. And now you're telling me that Paris Hilton has something of substance to contribute to society? THAT is a non-sequiter if ever there was one. I guess I'd better go view the video. Wish me luck, boys, I'm goin' in (he said in his best John Wayne voice).

Well actually, it was Adam McKay who wrote the script so I guess it's "his" energy plan... but Paris did the whole thing PDQ.. she does have a sense of humor and pulled it off quite well.

OK, now THAT was FUNNY. BUT, there were way too many multi-syllabic words and phrases for her to actually understand what the heck she was saying. She must be taking lessons in teleprompter regurgitation. Somehow, I wonder if she could actually pick an oil rig out of a lineup of other pictures of tall objects. "Oh look, that one's big", etc.

i guess her old trailer might have gone up a bit in possible historical value.

"here folks, is the paris hilton trailer, before she was president"

Jim, not the best choice of words given her first movie.

Of course, politics makes strange bedfellows.

I just noticed the Match.com girl seems to have a slight overbite.

Honest to (well, you know), I have no idea what that means. I try and make a point of not being up on popular culture.

Seriously. As much as I would like to, I'm not gonna ask.
