When the biker girl ad was running, this got hashed over on another thread with just about the same opinions.

So, from the Department of Redundancy Department, ads with good looking women always get noticed by me and I'm a lot older than 62 Overlander. I can ignore all other ads except the pop in, pop down, pop up, pop pop and sparkly page pealer types. I make a vow never to buy those products and that also includes anything Billy Mays advertises on TV. The fact that many of us are immune to advertising is why it keeps getting more invasive. There was a scene in a Tom Cruise movie some years ago about the future where as you walk into a mall, holographic ads are targeted to you by name. Both the gov't and the marketing people collect every bit of information they can get on us. It's pretty hard to maintain a illusion of personal privacy.

Something's got to pay for this Forum and I don't want to get another bill for something. There are too many bills as it is. I can stand a certain amount of advertising so long as I can ignore it. I'm not even sure I do ignore all of it because I'm conscious of the Airstream dealers who advertise, but little else in the ads (except for the pretty girls; it's hard wired).

I have no idea whether the match.com ad is only to get people together for a date or it's a sex ad and I don't care. I know good people who have used similar services and have gotten everything from dates to sex to marriage—all three sometimes. Long ago when I was single I didn't need internet services to get any of those things, but it's a different world now. To some extent what you see in such ads is what's on your mind because they are purposely ambiguous. If people need help getting together, that's ok with me and what they do with each other is none of my business. And these have a lot fewer lies in them than political ads.

I think it's incorrect to assume everyone on the Forum is ancient too. Quite a few are fully functional, younger than dirt and single.

What's "appropriate" is very personal. Censorship, once begun, grows. Your standards and mine are different because were all unique. Of course, I want to ban all the in-your-face stuff. Somebody probably likes them and thinks Billy Mays is an honest man (raise your hand if you like it or Billy).

I just went to look beyond the Arm Pits for the Airstream and she is gone.

Someone once mentioned the power of the pen.

Never mind she is still on the tread sites but not on Portal page.

I don't see any Airstream

Not appropriate - this is an Airstream site and should be kept that way. Thanks.

I don't think the ads are large and I think they are easily ignored I do it all the time. Match.com seems to be one of the less raunchy sites and their TV ads are well done, other sites even run adds trying to grab the cast offs of match.com.

If you are not supporting the site ads are a necessary evil it is the way things are payed for, if you are a paying member you should be ad free which is not the case and should be changed. I feel it is just like TV I can change the channel anytime I want.

I just ate lunch in the kitchen, you should of seen the add for Dirty, Sexy, Money which is coming to ABC, now some of you will hate the show and others will add a season pass to their TIVO.

The A/S forums are for RV'ing in our favorite campers - Airstreams. Seeing ads on RV'ing, gadgets, parts, campgrounds, Airstream dealers, etc., etc. doesn't bother me at all because they are content related.

The singles ads with some sweet young thaing beckoning attention IMHO, are inappropriate here.

I guess we see that kind of nonsense everywhere else on the web and it sure would be nice for this site to be different. I'd hope my AIR dues would help support better.

how about some denture ads? detrol LA? depends, for when the black tank is full?

maybe some camp grounds would like an ad?

how about 1 year supporting membership for each ad a member solicits?

If it is making money for the forum, I guess I can force myself to look at her!

I must be the ultimate sucker here as the only Supporting Member on this page so far.

Looks like I can save a buck next year and get some feminine pulchritude for free.

Sorry Mongo you type faster than I do.

Another point that one might consider. Almost every site you go to on the web wants to set a "Cookie". Many sites also set "Adware" some of which is harmful and some of which just slows your computer down.

Then there are the sites that solicit your information for what ever reason good, bad, indifferent, or to sell. The choice is yours until you hit the Enter Key.

Has anybody seen the "Bathroom shower supplies" ad? I've seen it in the left side bar ad in this thread a couple of times: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f332...tml#post591904

Yowsa! Now that's some shower door, umm, fixture! Hey Gene, there are some of us that are both ancient and functional. That is what you driving at, right?

Just an FYI, there are other posters in this thread that are supporting members, but they have elected not to display that status after the cursing and gnashing of teeth that went on when the golden rivets began appearing.
As for the ads, we get a "package" of ads, and some of them are more better than others as far as being relevent to our interests here.

This is a touchy area to explore, sort of like politics, though much better of course, and I'm sure your functionality is unquestionable, whether chemically or naturally motored. Yes, we ancient and functional members will truck on (or tow) ever onward and upward.

For several years now, we've paid a minimal annual membership (less than $10) to enable us to view Weather Underground on an ad free basis and customize our views and preferences a bit. We view that web site several times a day. Welcome to Weather Underground : Weather Underground

Sure would be nice to have the same benefit as a supporting member here on the AirForums.
