FYI, ScottW, it's a product made by Kellogg's and it's some sort of bar (like a granola bar maybe) that supposed to make you smart or not get senile or something like that.
This is the 4th thread started on this awful ad. There are a variety of workarounds most of them on "Is There a Way". It also tells you how to contact Kelloggs and complain.

I must be thick skinned. It takes a helluva lot more than that ad to annoy me. Matter of fact, if that ad were one of the most annoying things in my life, I wouldn't have it all that bad! Bailing out rich executives and the messes they create by greed is annoying. Iraqies not standing up for their own freedom is annoying. Picking up the tab for people who have the capacity but won't provide for themselves is annoying. Cleaning up other peoples messes is annoying. Goofly Ads, well they rank pretty low on my sensitivity meter.

Firefox plus AdBlock. I haven't seen any ads on the I'net for quite awhile. Can't imagine why everyone doesn't use this.

Not in the least. I was also not annoyed by Biker Girl or Armpit Girl.
Frankly I got bigger things in my life than some easily ignorable ad.

Would you like to turn off the ads?If you have an upgraded account you can opt out of seeing any ads on your screen. Click here to upgrade. If your account is not upgraded this field will not change anything.
I GUESS THIS HAS NO MEANING AT ALL? WHY DO I NEED TO USE A DIFFERENT BROWSER TO GET WHAT I (APPARENTLY) PAID FOR ALREADY?

Guess it's a big deal to a lot of us if there are four or more threads. Maybe a moderator can merge all of the threads for us. Mods?

P.s.
I really like the forums, don't get me wrong. BUT, I expect to get what I'm told I will get, and that is not the case with this issue. I can put a piece of duct tape across the top of my screen also, or just unplug my monitor...
I questioned the ad situation to the forum staff and got a pretty lame excuse, as far as I'm concerned:
"Not logging in to AIR exposes one to more ads. Joining in the first place (and only by signing in) will change the ad display but not eliminate it. That change is what you may have read about. There are a variety of programs you can put on your computer to removed all ads (eg, AdBlock Plus for Firefox browser)."
Nice try, but I'm still not satisfied.

You can use an AdBlock for Safari, or AdBlock for Firefox.
Here's what you can ad block that's on (or has been on) these forums:
Block ads/tracking
doubleclick.net
quantserve.com
extreme-dm.com
googleadservices.com
google-analytics.com
googlesyndication.com
Block double-underline text with pop-up ads
intellitxt.com
kontera.com
Block Boom banner ad
m1.2mdn.net/viewad
Block AirForums banner ads
socialknowledge.com
Block Airforums corner-peel ad
but not the advertised airstreams:
airstreamclassifieds/peel/
Block the large picture above classified ads
but not the advertised airstreams:
airforums.com/images/banner/airstream-300x250_homepage.gif
Block the above AND the classified ads
airstreamclassifieds (without the /peel/ on the end)
Hope this helps,

[quote=62overlander;649103]... so if the owner needs the advertising money, doesn't blocking the ads kind of counteract the reasoning behind the ads?
I would be willing to pay a higher user fee to be commercial free.
IT SEEMS THAT YOU ALREADY DID!

You guy's need to lighten up and click on the ad.
The ad is for brain food, DHA Omega-3 made into a delicious little snack. Now you can feed your brain while enjoying a high fat, high calorie, high fructose candy bar.
Just look at the amazing results this customer achieved:
"Em goin to et brane bar now. Canno get rapper offe. Bangin on flor no opin. Try terring. Terring good. Now etting brane bar. Is good. Don't noe about the brain stuff but it's actually quite tastee.
More bites. Now it's gone. Delicious. Can't tell if I'm any more intelligent but they make quite a superb snack treat. In fact, they're so delectable, dare I say luscious, that I cannot help but consume the entire container.
Again, it's a quandary exactly what effect the DHA omega-3 - contained within the scrumptious nibbles - has upon my person. However, I do know I just constructed a quantum nullifier using the empty wrappers and the cardboard box."

Viking, I have been working on a system to allow upgraded accounts to opt out of ads. The text you saw was not supposed to be seen by members and if you would like a refund on your upgrade let me know. At this time we do not have an opt out option for all ads for upgraded members. We might in the future but it might be an additional charge beyond the regular upgrade.
Regarding the ads, I wish I had a better answer for you. As everyone knows economic times are tough and resources like AIR have been supported for all members to enjoy for free by our advertisers. The ad supported business model of the internet has brought many innovative and useful tools to users and will hopefully be able to weather the current economic down cycle.

Andy, I appreciate the reply.
There have been a great number of complaints about the ad with the waving guy. I know that the site must be supported to some extent by outside advertising. Otherwise it probably wouldn't be near as good as it is, but that ad in particular is very annoying.
I actually used the link in the user cp to initiate my subscription with the expectation that the ads would be gone, and the language is quite clear about not seeing any ads on screen. I expect that everyone has access to that in their user cp as well, so it surprises me that there are not more complaints about the ads from subscribers.
I appreciate the offer of a refund, and respectfully decline it. The value of your site is well worth the cost to me, and I have been very happy with the product over-all. The people, and the information they provide, make this an entertaining and resourceful forum and I really enjoy it. The only issue I've had at all is that I cannot get what I was offered by the site as a supporting member in the way of eliminating the ads. If this actually becomes available in the future I will be glad to get rid of them. Until then, I will either put up with them, or use a work-around like others have.
Thank you for addressing this directly.
Rich

Don't get mad, get even. Email your protests to those with offensive ads. Better yet, look up their CEO's on Google and send a personal thank you. File a lawsuit claiming the guy with the moving hands gives you seizures. If you persevere, vengeance is at your fingertips.
