Just kidding of course. Now he is a distant bad memory, and whatever he was sellin is now just a small still ad at the edge of my screen.
I'm only starting to get used to firefox, but it is well worth it.

complain effectively

So - e-mail KELLOGS and tell them you're buying exclusively General Mills until the guy is permanently GONE!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Crusty,

Just wanted to say "thanks" for one of the best tips I have picked up on this forum. I was ready to stategically place some electrical tape across my laptop monitor, so that I didn't have to look at the "waving arms guy." Believe me......Kellogs products are definitely off our purchase lists. Thanks again for the tip on editing the HOSTS file.

I already did that....

Not my style to even comment on posts of this nature - this IS supposed to be an Airstream Forum - not a *#$&!#* advertising page!
This is clearly the most aggravating thing I've ever experienced on any of the forums that I participate in. The *#$&!#* peal back corner was bad enough. This one is over the top.

Ron, if you take a look at my post in this thread which has the contents of my own HOSTS file, you'll also see a couple of other ad networks listed that you can add to your HOSTS file to do away with some other similar troublesome sites.

After reading this thread, I don't know how you resisted the urge to install all manner of dubiousware onto your system and instead just added one line to a text file to fix the problem.

Crsuty, please add my thanks to the others, I'm still using IE7, but adding those lines made life much better.

I'm nominating you for Man Of The Year.

No no Marvin, don't do that it will only punish us your forum friends. However members shouldn't have to go through elaborate workarounds to rid their computers of self induced nuisances like intrusive ads.

Andy, puleeze help!

Check Post #3 for the link to the "Is there a way" thread which will tell you how to eliminate the obnoxious ad on various browsers.

I can't be bothered to do so, but I certainly hate the damn guy.

I think when any Forum signs a contract to get the ads to help pay for all this, they have little choice in what's posted. Since we all learn how to either ignore the ads or work around in the browsers, the ads just keep getting more and more obnoxious to get our attention. There is no free lunch.

And when an advertiser's name is Kellog you know that they are NOT going to let you tell them what they can do.

However, on the other side of the coin, one would think that they would have enough smarts to know when they are putting up something that is way "over the wall" in terms of annoyance factor.

Have they no sensitivity to the negative feedback it will generate?

Apparently not.

Thank goodness that Crusty's simple fix works 100%. Sad that we have to use it, though.

An analogy for this situation is a person who pays for cable tv and still has to suffer through commercials. Even PBS broadcasts semi-commercial advertisements thinly disguised as sponsor acknowledgements.

I don't see it changing any time soon.

Thumbs down Enough is enough!

And just when I was getting real good at "speed-scrolling down" the minute the page starts to open, he's now showing up on the left side & bottom too!!!

I've gotten rid of 'him' on my MAC at home...but not on my PC at work (I use both Safari and FireFox on my PC). Oh well, no more surfing at work for me ~ guess I won't be making it to 10,000 posts!
