That's a good question...how many of you are using the iPod and iTunes with a Wintel machine?

checkout Alpine

Alpine has a new iPod ready deck that allows you to control the iPod from the in-dash stereo. The iPod connects to some kind of proprietary bus (believe they collaborated with Apple). FYI - Mrs. Silverback and I have matching engraved iPods. We have used the cassette adapter from Xtreme Mac. It's OK, but no where near as good a sound as the Shure E2c phones we're currently using.
Just podding along....

My son was shopping for iPods with his Christmas money. He was looking at the 10 gig units when it was discontinued and they came out with a 15 gig for the same price. He was impressed!

Part of our consumer evaluation led us to this site from TechTV. There is some interesting information there but don't start pulling your machine apart on my account. It looks like a major issue was batteries going bad (which some will). Consumer complaints succeeded in getting Apple to drop the price to a third of what it used to be!

Has anyone else had problems burning audio CDs with Itunes and 10.3? I get nothing but errors, went back to 10.1 finally.

Audio CDs

Count me as an iPod owner (actually a Christmas gift for my wife). She is the user but the loading goes through my Powerbook.

John, I have Mac OS 10.3.2 and have loaded three audio CD books into iTunes and then onto the iPod with no problems. It sure beats switching tape cassettes or CDs when out walking.

I have bought a couple of tunes off iTunes Music Store mainly for the experience of doing so. Like Stephanie we have more than enough music from our CD collection to last a while.

Target Stores is creating an iPod kiosk in its store and selling pre-paid iTunes Musics Store cards. That just came out today.

Argosy, I'm using iTunes 4.2 and OS 10.3.2 and have no problems burning CDs. What Mac are you using? And do you know what burner you have? I'm using the Pioneer DVR-105 DVD/CD drive (aka Superdrive).

PM me if you need more help. I used to work tech support at Apple.

I agree that the fake cassette interface for the Ipods
are not the best way to go. ( If you crank up the volume when no music is playing , you will notice a wicked hum). To be honest
I don't care for the sterile digital sound. BUT......it sounds way
better than an audio cassette. To be brutally honest, I long
for the AM radio static on road trips along the Gulf Coast when
the daily storm would approach off of the water. That's why
I am looking at the pioneer , because it has radio, tape, cd
and hardwired IPOD jack.
But usually it is easier to simply open the door and
enjoy live fiddles, mandolins, guitars, dobros, and upright bass.
Then the IPOD makes a really nice paper weight.
The stores around here couldn't keep IPODs on the shelf
so I guess they didn't see the need to lower the prices.
I also got conflicting info about the " quality difference " between an MP3 and an IPOD? ( Step in any time Gary....please)

I've had my iPod since the first days and running 10.1.5.

Now I have 10.3.2 in my 17" Powerbook...here is the Superdrive that is in it:

Manufacturer: MATSHITA
Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815
Revision: DWDB
Serial Number:
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW

Never had a problem with the iPod or connecting it to the computer.

As for the battery issue, I do not think it is effecting the new iPods that have been out since after the second gen units.....

By the way...you worked in Cupertino when you were in Apple tech support?

Eric

BTW, there is a new software update for the iPod that was released today. It is for the dock iPods.

Twinkie, I worked in Austin, TX, in tech support, then Campbell, CA, while in a small group known as Executive Relations. Lived in Cupertino but commuted to Campbell. The group was moved the Cupertino after I left Apple.

Neat...always nice to meet folks that work/worked for Apple. I was just there a few weeks ago. Ate at Cafe Macs and saw Steve's office from the courtyard. Cafe Macs was totally unreal. The food was totally awesome. The folks there are real nice and laid back too. I liked the volleyball court in the middle of the courtyard....nice touch....

Wasn't Austin where one of the clone makers was located that Apple bought out after the clone fallout and moved some of it's operations there or am I on a totally different page?

The food at the Apple Cafe is pretty awesome.

There was an Apple clone manufacturer in Austin. I'll remember their name later. Some of the Austin Apple tech reps went to work for them.
