I'm looking for a few insurance company recommendations. I just bought a 97 30' Excella and of course need to insure it. My "default" insurance co would probably be Progressive but I know there is cheaper insurance to be had with an equal level of customer service.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I don't know that the coverage would be any cheaper, but I have been extremely well pleased with the coverage that I have through Foremost. My initial insurer with my Overlander was American Family - - they provided excellent coverage, but when I had a claim for some minor skin damage there would have been major problems were it not for the intervention of the knowledgeable Airstream dealer who performed my repairs. I have not had any claims since switching to Foremost almost six years ago, but since they are obviously familiar with Airstreams I am more confident that there won't be as many questions about the appropriate repair methods.

Progressive is one of the best insurance companies in California.
Should your trailer become damaged, they are very easy to work with.
Foremost on the other hand, is OK, if you don't mind them depreciating sheetmetal!!!!! Say What????? How do you establich a life expectancy, on Airstream sheetmetal.
You can't, but they do it regardless.
At today's sheetmetal prices, you could wind up paying far more than just your deductable.
once i realized foremost was part of the 'farmers familiy' i cooled on them....several not very good experiences with farmers over the last 30 years....early on with auto and later with home owners....i'll never buy farmers again. so then the bids came in and it was easy.....progressive was several hundred dollars less than farmers (i mean foremost) and over 1500$ less than good sams (which is really general motors, national general) for a new trailer...and the replacement cost option. i was hoping good sams would make it because my first airstream was with them and they were great.
looked over the policy and progressive has really tailored their rv insurance. looks like they have addressed all the issue rv'ers or full timers might have. the price for 1 year was half that of than anyone else.
i don't know how easy they are to deal with on claims and they were not competive on the t.v. so i'll stay with a.i.g. for my cars and trucks...they are really great on price and exceptional on claims service.
Needless to say, without knowing what the company is quoting on it is impossible to determine if the premimum is excessive.
What is the insured property value your asking for? (policy limits)
Is it an agreed value policy?
Does the agreed value stay the same for at least three years? (assuming a new unit) or do they offer FULL replacement cost for three years in case of a total?
Are you requesting Comprehensive & Collision coverage?
What deductible are you requesting for each? Do they disappear?
Are you requesting a full timers policy?
What level of personal liability coverage are you requesting? 300K, 500K, 1mil?
What are the medical payments offered?
Storage shed content coverage?
How much personal effects coverage are you requesting?
What is the deductible?
Requesting roadside assistance coverage?
Do you have ANY insurance claims for anything in the last 3 to 5 years? These will show up on what they call a CLUE report. They will look into past DMV violations for 3 years. They will look into your financial information/credit report also.
These factors and the residing zip code where the unit is housed will have an impact on your premimum.
Are you going through an agent?
If you wish, you could call Progressive directly and solicit a quote from them. 1-800-776-4737. If you do this you should insure that you are comparing 'apples-to-apples'.

Does $1,000.00 every 6mo. sound right to insure a 2006 34' Airstream?
Don't know how where you live affects the price. I'm paying about $75 monthly for 70K's worth on the Classic. That's for the replacement value policy that would replace the trailer with a duplicate within the first 5 years if its totaled. Also has a disappearing deductible that lowers out of pocket to 0 if I have no claims in the first 4 years (I think it's 4). Also this includes the roadside assistance center which covers the trailer and tow vehicle. They dispatch and will tow both the tow vehicle and trailer if the tow vehicle is disabled. I found that a quote through their 800 number gave me a better price than with a local Progressive agent.
I also checked with Good Sam and they wanted $2,400 annually. Foremost was almost $2,000.

as already noted lots of variables for an individual policy, coverage levels, location, claims history and fica score, and so on determine rates.
i purchased progressive for the 05 classic limited 34 with basically the same policy features mentioned in jack's post. replacement, towing, disappearing deductible, yada yada yada. my deductible is 500/1000.
1 year ===1025$ from local progressive agent.
300$ more from online progressive quote,
2000-2800$ from farmers/foremost, good sam and
others who were laughably too high.
no other policies with progressive because aig does house, cars and truck and they weren't close price wise for any of these things but hit the trailer on the nose.
Wow and I though $45k (retail) worth of Safari @ $400/yr was expensive....I should just sit back and close my yap (er stop typing).

Another option not mentioned is what we went with. That being going with a high deductable. Our 25' classic cost $350. annually. That is with $5000. dectuable. While I'm not "made of money" my biggest concern is a major accident or total loss. Having done this with all our auto and rv's over the years we are now far enough ahead that $5000 is small in comparison to what we would have paid out for low or no dectable. Just a thought---Pieman
