Insight - Bounder Motor Homes an RV Sucess Story
I worked at Fleetwood from 1971 till 1975, in the Pace Arrow Motor Home Plants. First in their Plant in Ontario, CA and then I was transfered to Paxinos, PA.
While at Paxinos, PA, Bill Selby, General Manager and Co-Founder of Pace Arrow died. A long time Fleetwood Employee from the Mobile Home side of the company, and from the Corporate Office became the new General Manager in Ontario, CA.
John Crean, founder of Fleetwood, came up with a new concept in motor homes, and at a starter's level. There is no doubting John's creativity, business sense, and market know how. You can read about this in many articles about John Crean, and about the Bounder history.
The only thing missing from the history is who John Crean selected for the can-do manager. Yep, he selected Loren Schmidt.
Without Loren in charge Crean's dream might have taken longer to get off the ground. The Crean-Schmidt team brought out the Bounder and the rest is history.
One of the characteristics that I remember about Loren is his uncanny ability to increase or decrease his production and inventory. He had the best record of any of the General Managers in the Fleetwood Empire.
So when you say Bounder, think of John Crean, but don't forget Loren Schmidt.
