Different controls. See pics above.

Interesting. Airstream sure made some changes from 83 to 84. Ours is an 84 310 and has all of the controls combined into one unit.

Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures, I need to find me a better pocket digital camera.

I pulled this unit and a similar one out of a mid 80s dodge ram van. When we first got our 310 it had a bad/broken control unit and I found one on eBay to replace it. Since then I decided it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a couple of spares laying around. I think the pick-a-part yard charge $10 each.

I'm going back tomorrow to look for spares for our Argosy motorhome.

The fan switch is a standard GM part. I'll give our kid a call tomorrow (he works for a very large Chevy dealership), and see if it's available. If not, second best is your local NAPA, they might have the switch available separately. It's pretty much the same switch used in similar year pickups and vans.
As for the scare light, do you need the lens or the whole unit? I know there are a bunch of the lenses in the stock room, I counted them yesterday.

Thanks, Terry, I'll call on Monday, it's just the plastic cover I need on the light.

Mike, I just talked to our kid, and he says there is a casting number on the back of the housing for the fan control. He needs that number to make sure he is looking up the right thing, what you have could have been in a parts bin for a while before they installed it. We don't want to assume it's an '83 switch just because the coach is an '83. If you can access the back of it, the number should start with something like "172", and be really long.

Curious, seems to me our early trailers had glass lenses, or have they always been plastic?

Mike,

I picked this control unit up at the pick-a-part this morning. I believe it is the same unit as you have in your motorhome. The casting # is PT-339829 C-2. The only markings I can find on the switch itself is INDAK.

If only your switch is bad you might be able to remove it without removing the whole assembly. The switch is held in place by 2 phillips head screws. You might be able to use a stubby screw driver to reach up in there.

Brad
