In the path of Sandy

One of the rationalizations of living at the Jersey shore has always been, "well, at least we don't get (insert type of natural disaster here) " Oh sure, high taxes, crooked politics, high cancer and insurance rates. But at least we don't get (again, insert natural disaster here). So imagine our joy at noticing that Sandy is scheduled to hit us DIRECTLY in about 24 hours. The camper is secured, the stablizers are down, we've got a genny, beer and food at the house. But seriously, when I look at the projected path it's like it's going to come down my street. Oh well, wish us luck. And when the food and beer run out, we'll live on Holloween candy and that 20 year old bottle of Amaretto that we never drank.

Have you thought about taking the trailer and moving inland?

It looks really, really fierce. I'm worried about anyone on or near the coast.

After moving from the Space Coast in FL last year to NV, I thought, "Whew, no more hurricanes to worry about!!!" Not so quick with the enthusiasm missy.... now to figure out how to *prepare* for wildfires and earthquakes. Ahhhhhhhhhh

Wishing you luck with Sandy and hope you don't have any damage or lose power.

Went to liquor store. Got gas for generator. Went to liquor store. Filled water tank, gray water tank, and black water tank. The weight can't hurt. Got a couple of meals pre-cooked. Got to make a run to liquor store. Sal

It's gonna be a monster storm.

We were 50 miles north of the Virginia earthquake's epicenter last summer (when it hit). Came home and added earthquake insurance to our homeowner's.

I haven't found any part of the country that doesn't have some sort of natural disaster waiting to happen, then there are the man made ones...

After Katrina and a few others along the Gulf Coast I was intrigued to note that the Airstreams seem to fair better than the SOB's. Seems they shed the wind better and if they happen to get flipped you can roll them back over and keep using them.

I dodged the storm this time, live too far inland in NC. But I have a son in Boston and a daughter in NH, both have made their liquor store/beer and chip runs and live on high ground.

I do have a couple of job sites in the path, but the hatches have been battened down and the crews have been moved away from the danger zones.

Also canceled my trip to Binghamton, NY for Wednesday.

Our brand new AS is at Colonial right now and we are actually freaking out. Colonial is so close to the shore. We have never even seen our AS yet in person as we are planning our trip cross country next month to pick her up. Hope she is going to make it. Would be a very sad situation if she is damaged before we even step foot into her!!

Don't worry Bird

Congrats on your new 'stream. We Jersey people just like to complain. I do business with Colonial and am familiar with the area. You won't have flooding there and there are no trees nearby to fall. Rest easy. I'm sure your new baby will be fine.

it's probably safe to exhale - the barrier islands & ocean are about 7 or more miles east from Colonial, and, iirc, the average elevation above sea level there is about 40'.

landfall in NJ expected to be tomorrow, Monday evening. here's a local weather link you might use to follow - Election Results

best,

Good luck everyone in the storm path... This could get dicey.

It's been raining here for two hours already.
