Well after reading about 3/4 of "Trailer travel here and abroad" I have to say I picked the right trailer. The stories about the caravans are very abbreviated but fun to read.

So that was you I was bidding against. They show up from time to time. Is this book a recommended Ebay purchase?

I've been watching those books too - but $100 is not worth it to me. I'll keep looking in old book stores.

With shipping and insurance mine came out to $69.50, not bad for a book that sold for $4.95

If you just want to READ the book, check with your local library. Mine was able to track down a copy that the Illinois state library had.

If I remember correctly, it was dictated by Wally Byam so it's "written" the way he talked. I didn't find it boring, but that may say something about me. I wanted to read it just to get an idea of what trailering was like back in the 50's and 60's. The caravans they had were pretty exciting considering the challenges they had to overcome. I guess it could have been made more interesting by inferring that Wally Byam and Leonardo DaVinci were members of a secret aluminum polishing society and that stonehenge is a memorial to early caravans.

I have to admit that it is not a "real page turner". It takes a couple of times through a section to "get it". A lot of that I think is due to "Wally speak". The book is kind of a informmercial for Airstreams and the caravans. I purchased it for chapters 1, 2, 4, 5 ,6 , 8, and 11 They cover the Canada and US caravans, and what trailer you should buy and how to set it up. I must say that (like earlier) I picked the right size trailer for my (I didn't know this then) family of six. I have to say that the book is real general in its setting up your trailer. Less is more....
