Thank goodness ...
I voted early. Even then, there were at least 30 ahead of me.
Today, at bout 4:30, I passed the polling place, going east. There was a massive traffic jam of people getting off work, going west. There must have ben a couple of hundred people in line and they were parking everywhere. I didn't know till I arrived home and saw the note that my wife was somewhere in that mass of people. She still hasn't arrived home over 2 hours later.
Our county is growing by leaps and bounds. There are 40% more people in the county than there were when the macines were ordered. Add to that a long and complicated ballot and there are problems for sure.

Yep, but the polling place was virtually deserted...Nice to get in and out quickly, but it felt kind of weird. Hope there are a lot of absentee ballots out there~Such an amazing privilege.
Good thread! Thanks.

I voted - by mail in ballot. There are no polling places now in my part of the country. They have been closed and balloting is done by mail. I filled out my ballot when I paid the bills. It was convenient but here's what I missed:
The opportunity to see and chat with my neighbors at the polls.
Taking my kid to the polls to vote with me and having that oh so easy conversation about the process and then modeling it.
I missed the "special effort and thought" that is reinforced when you have to go out of your way to do something. This year, balloting was just another envelope in a tall pile on my desk to be dealt with, stamped and mailed.
But.... I voted.

I voted! Always do. Never have missed an opportunity to exercise my right to vote since I was first able at 21!
I live in a small county, walk in, vote, get my "I voted sticker" and be on my way.
I would sure like to see more folks vote, however. Too many times people "don't bother". If you don't vote, you don't really have room to complain. We all gotta do our part. Well, that's my take anyway.

Hi Pjpoll and Caddy, and Chaplain,
Yes, I voted..agreed, you can't complain if you don't let your voice be heard at the polls!..I've been voting by absentee ballot over the past 5 years or so..it is easier since I'm never sure if I'll be around on election day!
Of course, this year's ballot was so heavy, I had to put 2 stamps!..

With all due respect, how could you possibly imagine that "every one" is happy with the returns?

I'd like to thank everybody for conforming to the no politicking policy and keeping it cool here. We voted this week -- now please remember to let your reps know what you (not the lobbyists) are thinking in the coming two years!

I'm happy the campaign phone calls and political attack ads will finally stop...at least until next year.

When I started this thread, I wondered if it might go in a political direction. I too was very pleased with the way it went.
I thank everyone who voted yesterday!
Sumerkid, next election for sure!

I, too, am glad that no one got political on this thread. This is the way it should be.
Thanks again for your civility and gracious hospitality to those who might or might not agree with your convictions.

I had contemplated composing a rambling dialog musing on the concept of having all the congressmen take a few trips in their own Airstream. The hypothesis was that they would start behaving more like the members on the Forum, begin to see things eye to eye and try to do more positive things for the people.
Then I remembered the vitriol exchanged between members of the WBCCI this summer over the direction of the club.
Oh, well...
Maybe summerkid, by not voting here in the Land of Lincoln is having the last laugh on us Illinoisans after all. No Illinois seat changed hands and all the incumbents won. No one expects any change in the direction of this State.
On the other hand, the old saw that "all politics is local" may have finally been put to rest. No matter your views we can all agree the Country is definitely heading for a change.
My sincerest thanks to all who voted and for making your voices heard.
Tom.

Politics and Airstreams...
I doubt they'd ever see "eye to eye", but that's the way it's supposed to be. But maybe they'd argue and then compromise, or win, or lose, and still treat the other party with some respect at the end of the day.
Send 'em to a forums rally!
The tone maintained on this thread is further proof that Airstreamers are a higher life form.

Not even one mention of an AS at a polling place! Not even as a "lounge" for those hard working poll workers. Oh well, there is always 2008!
Nice Kitty Kat HHP!
