I quit also. 1999. Can't for the life of me see what I have done with all the money I have saved over the years, but I'll just guess it maybe why we could afford a AS, gas and all th extras we have added.
Good luck quitting, it will be so good for you and your family. You will improve your health and your wallet will be thicker. s

Over 3 years now smoke-free. Not a craving at all and don't miss it a bit.
Stay strong, and YOU will WIN!

Any vice is a coping mechanism... something to get you through... whatever
If it is unhealthy, best to be rid of it.
Congrats on the progress.

After 5 1/2 years cigarette free, I can say I no longer ever think about smoking in a positve light. It just takes time. Hang in there.

Congrats! Not easy but so good for you!
I quit a 3 pack per day habit 24 years ago but over the past decade or so have had an occasional cigar. The occasions were creeping up from once a year to quarterly to monthly to weekly and sometimes 2-3 watching football all day. Not good. And I especially loved them at a campfire. But I had my last cigar in July last year and am surprised at how little I miss them!

A Good Reminder!
We, Mary and Richard, are smoke free since we courted in 1984. Wasn't easy at all at first but now we can't imagine touching the stuff!
Good for all you who make the effort. Tobacco's addictive, costly and unhealthy.

Glad I found this thread. I really need to quit and reading some of these threads may help. Such a stupid habit.

Big Congrats RichardT!
The people on this forum and this thread contributed significantly to me stopping 8 years ago. My son was six years old back then. When I recently talked to someone about how thankful I was that I had quit, my now 14-year old interrupted us and said, "I never knew you smoked!"

My "smobriety" date....Sep 22, 1989. Attended a few "Smokers Anonymous" meetings, now called Nicotine Anonymous.....
Used the Seven Minute Rule..... when I wanted a cigarette i waited seven minutes by using a timer. The urge diminishes after about five minutes.
Today, some of the meds are helpful, but have their side effects which can be quite severe.
Good luck to anyone who has a desire to quit smoking....

27 Nov 97. Never looked back. Never felt better. Good on ALL of you! The smokes they sell today are awful, that stuff just doesn't smell right. Kind of like my Univolt when it died......ugh.

Thanks to my granddaughter, Jada
September of last year (2014). Was in the process of building a doll house for my granddaughters when Jada (5 year old) asked me, "when will you quit smoking, grandpa"....I told her that I would when I finished the doll house....and kept my promise....Sometimes we just need a nudge in the right direction from those we love.

Well, how time flies! I quit smoking (post #42) at the urging of RichardT over 10 years ago.
Thanks, my friend.
