I quit smoking tobacco around 1980 and started dipping Copenhagen instead.

Among other things, I'm now in the last month of my forties and decided it's now time to leave tobacco behind me. I quit dipping Copenhagen last week, and my gums feel pretty good about it.

My body's muscle memory is the tough part - there are so many tasks I do where part of the ritual was to get a fresh dip.

I didn't tell anyone my plans to give up nicotine. After my last tin emptied, I just didn't buy any more. The only other time I quit using tobacco was in the late eighties, and doing so made me sleepy instead of irritable. The plan was to tell everyone I was coming down with something if they should ask.

My 11-year-old pulled me aside this afternoon after we returned home from me picking him up from school on my motorcycle to tell me he had noticed no spit cans in the places I normally leave them.

I told him it was time for me to set the example about not smoking, drinking, and chasing dancing girls. He laughed, but then told me he was proud of me. While I already know he's a lot smarter than I am, his discussion caught me off guard.

I can stick with this.

Tom

I quit also. 1999. Can't for the life of me see what I have done with all the money I have saved over the years, but I'll just guess it maybe why we could afford a AS, gas and all th extras we have added.
Good luck quitting, it will be so good for you and your family. You will improve your health and your wallet will be thicker. s

Over 3 years now smoke-free. Not a craving at all and don't miss it a bit.

Stay strong, and YOU will WIN!

Any vice is a coping mechanism... something to get you through... whatever
If it is unhealthy, best to be rid of it.
Congrats on the progress.

After 5 1/2 years cigarette free, I can say I no longer ever think about smoking in a positve light. It just takes time. Hang in there.

Congrats! Not easy but so good for you!

I quit a 3 pack per day habit 24 years ago but over the past decade or so have had an occasional cigar. The occasions were creeping up from once a year to quarterly to monthly to weekly and sometimes 2-3 watching football all day. Not good. And I especially loved them at a campfire. But I had my last cigar in July last year and am surprised at how little I miss them!

A Good Reminder!

We, Mary and Richard, are smoke free since we courted in 1984. Wasn't easy at all at first but now we can't imagine touching the stuff!

Good for all you who make the effort. Tobacco's addictive, costly and unhealthy.
