Just go ahead and eat. You can fix the damage. What you can't fix is the damage fron smoking

Hi, I'm glad to hear that so many of you have kicked the habit. Good for you. We are soooooo proud of you. As I said in an earlier post, I was a nail biter for 40 years, so I know how hard it could be to make that change. I also incouraged two co-workers to stop smokeing and they are both happy they did.

Just an update.
Since I started this thread I havent smoked or even wanted too.
I have also quit drinking soda.
I have cut probably 80% of sugar out of my diet.
I have stopped eating red meat.
I look and feel better.
I am glad to see other have stopped smoking as well.
I hope others figure out that quitting smoking is something they will never regret.

On the sideline cheering...
OK guys, it's about time for an upate and a little bit of support from all of us, and from each other.
I hope you're all hanging in there, if not, get back on the horse and ride! The gains are worth the effort - not only for you, but also for those you love and who love you.
Keep moving forward.

Hi Dave.It will be 4 months on Thursday for me. So far so good. The strange thing is that it is getting harder for me instead of easier.Thought it would be the opposite.

4 months is a huge accomlishment! But...
I just put that teaser in to keep you reading . That monkey is always there waiting to jump, and in the first months has still so much energy for it!! It is maybe like breaking a horse...stay with it until you wear it out! A day will come, when you will realize you haven't thought of a smoke for some time. It will truly feel strange and wonderful. Then all you have to do is remember the monkey, battered as it may be, will be looking for a chance to get back in the game.
My very best to you! (Been smoke free over 23 years after a heavy habit. Now spending the $ on Ernestine ...much healthier!)
And RichardT...you are a hero!

It brings me lots of joy to hear that you guys have stuck wit your commitment to quit smoking. Easier? Better? I don't ever think that it will be either of these but I know you will breath EASIER and BETTER and that your family will find life EASIER and feel BETTER about having you around. Stick with it - good luck.

Mike, well said.
Those of you who have quit, I'm happy for you and also for those around you. I know it's not easy, I've watched others trying to quit. Great job, keep it up!

What worked for me was telling myself that this was the last time I would have to go through this and did I ever want to do this to myself again? NO. Withdrawal is miserable; I stopped 23 years ago and I can still remember how terrible I felt. (Of course, I used to smoke in the shower.)
good luck to anyone who quits or who even thinks of quitting.

Lisa, Karma to you for a great first post. I've been pulling so hard for these guys.
I've seen the effects of smoking on the body, and I've also seen how hard it is to quit. I know some have had trouble. I feel bad, but I don't feel any condemnation - it is such an addictive habit.
For those who have quit, for those who would like to, for those who have had a set-back - I'm pulling for you!
Dave
