I inherited a 20' pontoon boat

I inherited a 20' X 8' pontoon boat with a 35 hp evinrude outboard. I am trying to figure how to move it from upper Wisconsin to Southern Illinois. I have a 13' X 6' landscape trailer which was made in the 60's. It was made from very thick angle iron and has 1 axel which can hold 3800 lbs. Pontoon boats made the same size as the one I inherited weigh about 1250 lbs. I am trying to figure out if I can do something to the trailer so I can carry it home. The rails come off the trailer and the landscape cage door in the back comes off. I can make the trailer flat and put landscape ties sideways to hold the pontoons.

I have been looking for a pontoon trailer to rent. I am just trying to figure out if it is worth me getting it. I really want to get it. Anybody have any ideas. It does not have a trailer.

every pontoon boat in America will be coming off their trailers for the summer in the next couple weeks, why not borrow/rent one of those? If you are going to keep it in a slip, ask around the Marina. BTW, which lake in SI?

Greetings Brian & Adrienne!

My suggestion would be to try contacting the Marina's found at each of the larger lakes in Southern Illinois. I suspect that you may be able to rent the appropriate trailer more economically than to make the changes on your landscaping trailer. Based upon what I see of pontoon trailers around here, most for a rig the size of the one that you want to transport have a single axle.

Good luck with your deliberations!

Kevin

P.S.: Once in a great while, a pontoon trailer will be offered for sale in the local trader publications for a very reasonable price.

You'd be better off using your utility trailer. Make sure you pack the bearings and have good tires.

I wouldn't use a rented or borrowed pontoon trailer because most of them are just storage trailers and only get used twice a year. You don't want to be stuck in Rockford with a blown tire or a smoked bearing on someone else's trailer.
