I don't ................ Do you?

Hi, I guess I'm just old fashioned and not trusting of things that are very convenient for others.

I don't:

(1.) Have a Debit card.

(2.) Use an ATM.

(3.) Bank on-line.

(4.) E-file my taxes.

(5.) Have a Smart Phone.

Do you?

Am I the only "Airstream Millionaire" [joking about the Millionaire part] who doesn't have or use any of these items listed above?

All of the above. Back in early '80s I remember direct deposit and ATM was a breakthrough for traveling on vacation.

Just did get the smartphone, 4g and serves as wifi hotspot. Now I don't need both phone and aircard.

The one place I do tend to remain old fashioned-I use cash for many smaller transactions.

I don't efile my taxes, or have a smartphone. I try to avoid online banking, and I have a debit/check card separate from my regular bank account to pay bills over the phone.
Though you didn't ask, I do pay many bills online, using the aforementioned check card.

All of the above, and I've never had a problem. In fact the online banking has saved me some headaches by finding out about problems sooner rather than later.

I once saw a quote on the internet: "No one under the age of 30 writes checks anyway." I think this is very true - I'm over 30, and I only write one check every month, and that's for a bill whose online-bill-payment setup is terrible. Otherwise everything is paid online; some are even auto-debited from the account.

I gave up and drank the kool-aid.

Any sense of privacy one believes in is an illusion.

The banks convert any transaction to electronic as we wait at the teller window.

Tax forms are scanned into the data base at the IRS upon arrival.

Even selling recyclables is tracked. Sometime ago I took an aluminum engine block, from a car I owned, to a scrap dealer. I was subjected to the following: my driver’s license was scanned, they took a digital picture of me with the item sold, and they took an electronic scan of my thumb print. They told me the law required it.

Using cash doesn’t really help much, the transaction to even cash for more than just a couple hundred bucks a check is logged.

However, remote banking and bill paying does simplify life.

Someone else may now mount the soap box.

I do it all and feel that it has streamlined my life. I do carry cash for purchases under $20. It is amazing how much all of this has changed in the last 10 years. My son who is under 30 does not carry cash at all.

Thumbs up

Debit no credit

ATM no, isn't the teller automatic? What is it that makes the machine an oxymoron?

Bank online no....I don't trust them in person for god's sake.

Preparer efiles...I can't decipher the instructions.

No smartphone...limited IQ, just figured out all the buttons on my cell.

I do all of these, emphasis not accidental.

I pay the bills, insure direct deposit, etc., and handling these things online is indescribably helpful when we are on the road up to 12 weeks at a time.

Doug would pay all bills with cash or handwritten checks sent snail mail and have no phone but a land line.

We have a StoryPeople print at home about being "rather tidy for a dinosaur".

That's my Doug.

Everything but the debit card. I cycle almost all transactions through a limited selection of credit cards for either the "cash Back" or frequent flyer miles, then pay the card off at months end. Most periodic bills are automatically paid which requires very few checks to be written. It is not uncommon for me to have less than $10 in my pocket. I would be a big disappointment to a mugger unless they wanted my beat up cheap watch.

I regularly do all of the above, except the debit card. I use a credit card only. The 5% gas rebate is something that netted me almost $600 in 2011 (we use a lot of gas in our Airstream travel).

All of these things are what allow us to take off in the Airstream for 10 weeks at a time. If it weren't for these modern conveniences, it would be difficult to take really long trips.

We have an close friend who refuses to use any of these things or own a computer. He feels that email could result in an invasion of his privacy. I keep telling him that he might as well go ahead and get a room at the nursing home.

I am trying to embrace all of the new technology.

Until last week I could deny the last one but.... now I do have all those things.
Debit card is actually a check/credit card and we use the credit card portion.
There is no way WE could Full time without the online banking.
E-File the taxes = quicker refund for money to spend on the Airstream
Smart phone = apps that help me find stuff when I'm out in the third new town this month.

All of the above and have done for years. Indeed, the UK is some years ahead of North America in these things so it came as a bit of a shock that not everything I used to do on-line there was available in Canada when I arrived. I'm happy to say that mostly it has caught up in the last three years.

E-filing taxes is brilliant (given that you can't avoid them anyway) and we had our refund in our account in six working days this year, and went on line to check two days before the paper notification arrived in the mail.

Privacy is an illusion, as others have said; people have been collecting information about you constantly for decades now. I go with the flow and exploit the advantages rather than worry about what a bank knows about me and my habits; frankly I couldn't care less anyway.

I rarely carry cash, either, there seems to be little need of it these days.

I only get upset when I can't do things on line, like use my Canadian credit card in a US gas pump because it demands a US zip code. I have to go into the booth, swipe the card there and come back out to fill up. They don't do any special checks in the booth so I'm at a loss to see why they bother with that limitation. Ho hum.

Don't have or use any on the list...I fear the day that I will have to replace my cell phone with a smart phone.

Whoa.....all that extra cash in your trailer for your Alaska trip must have been difficult to tow! And who accepts checks anymore.

You'd probably get more technophobes if you weren't on an online community asking the question I'll bet at your average WBCCI rally you'd find lots of folks who get by fine without those things! Personally, I like technology. Anything that makes life more convenient means I can be more productive and spend what little time off I have actually enjoying myself. Who wants to spend it at the bank talking to a teller?
