My '06 was built in the unlubed bearing period when Airstream installed higher capacity Dexter axles for a few months. I think my GAWR is about 7200#. Tongue weight doesn't count against that, so I thought I had leeway to break the mold. Am I mistaken?

This picture shows my Safari tilted to the left. Towing is getting to be a real "Hey, watch this!" experience.



I got a great deal on a 1925 wood cookstove. The aluminum color and nickeled steel fittings seemed an Airstream natural, so I thought, "What could go wrong?"



I installed it in place of my roadside couch. It's over the axles so no rear end separation could happen. Wait. This gets good. I've re-routed the flue to the stack in the adjacent Dometic, so I have the first tri-fuel fridge in which wood is used. That's not really working yet but there's a more immediate issue.

Our Safari tilts to the roadside too much. Above 110 pounds pressure the tires look like something from Roger Rabbit. Anybody ever use airbags on just one side? The stove already adds almost 500#, so I'm not wanting to carry all my firewood on the curbside. Here's my best idea and the real question -- on the WD setup, how about 1000# springbars on the left and 500# springbars on the right? Has this been done before?

I won't even start in on what's happening with the outriggers...

Have you checked your running gear? So long as it's properly aligned and the tires are perfectly inflated, you should be fine....

I think if you took the bread keepers off the top you could move the thing closer to the wall.

Then it would be a simple matter to add a tag axle, just on that side, to take some of the weight. Or you could add a set of leaf springs on top of the torsion axle and increase it's capacity that way.

And I wouldn't put a 1000# bar on one side and a 500# on the other. It's much easier to just saw halfway through one of the bars to reduce it's rating.

Drop your tire pressure 30# on the passenger side of your TV. It will straighten the entire rig out (Airstream tiled left, TV tilted right).

Stack your fire wood on the opposite side. When it starts tilting back to the other side it's time to come home.

Do you store your cast iron skillets in the oven? That could be part of the tilting problem? We keep the cast iron we travel with in the credenza on the opposite wall from our oven.

I counter balanced mine with the cast iron, claw foot tub on the opposite side.

Did you check to see if the witch is still in the oven? Maybe you could stack her on top of the firewood - or have her mix a spell to lighten the curb side load?

Maybe you can find another deal on a 1925 wood cookstove, put in on the other side and you will have a double cook top to feed us all. Proplem solved!!

Cash in all your bank accounts and take the money out in "pennies."

Put the pennies on the curb side of the trailer, to balance the trailer.

If you have your running gear balanced and use a Hensley you should be alright. Also, with the refer conversion make sure you switch over to the 1.2 gigawatt flux capacitor to avoid timing issues.

Which brings me back to my latest greatest idea to reverse all of my bonehead moves. (which ones wouldn't those be? ) I'm losing my forum touch and can't find any of those threads about putting helium instead of air in the tires. And then it dawned on me -- fill the tires with a vacuum and I should be able to put 200# pressure in them fer shure. Like totally!
