HURRY!! What's wrong with this???

Ebay auction. Look at it and tell me what you think about this camper and the description.

eBay Motors: airstream camper (item 330254074984 end time Jul-21-08 10:40:44 PDT)

Godspeed,

From the vin it is 31 foot international. No gray water tanks in 1972. Beware of saggy back end and floor rot in the bathroom. I would think you should inspect it before you bid any more money than you can afford to loss. A new fridge could cost you $900 and the air is another $800 min.

On the bright side, the fridge may work as the current owner may not be aware that they take a long time to get cold. They also make no noise, so he may have a working fridge and not know it. I'd be concerned about the plumbing and electrical.

Not enought photos, may be in need of more rebuilding than one may want to do. If you have spare money and time it may be worth the effort.

You would need a WHOLE LOT more information before considering it anything more than a parts donor.

It defineatly needs axles from the way it sits and the fact that is was on a river means it aint been moved in a while so ADD another $1500 for axles.

it could be a noodler's special!

along with axles...

seeing the INTERIOR cushions piled outside isn't a 'please buy me' statement...

and down by WHAT river?

and how many times it may have been IN the river (as it rises) too...

otoh for some someone that needs windows they all appear to open...

i wonder it that's to let the odors or critters out?

cheers

Thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate it.

I in fact looked at this camper in 3D just this evening, it is only 10 miles from me. When I saw it on Ebay and the high bid was $760 and it ends in less than 2 days I started panting rapidly. Before I called the guy I realized what was up. Record rain in early June and the levee broke on the Illinois side of the river without warning. Yep, this AS had water up to the top of the fold away table for probably 2 weeks (he wasn't sure how long). But ya don't see that mentioned anywhere in the ad do you? He did tell me it sat in a "foot of water" before I even asked. Funny that there are no inside pictures but he sure got outside pix. Of the front. Because the back has a huge dent in two radius panels. Yep, he tore everything out and threw it away because it REEKS!!!!! And then he tried to hose out the silt. Didn't work. Can you say "insulation is wet"? And floor is ruined. Probably the "wood grain vinyl woodwork" is also. The lady who asked the seller a question on Ebay is coming 5 hours from Cincinnati tomorrow to look at it. She posted her email and phone number. Should I call her and see if she has been told it was flooded? Or report it to Ebay?

BTW, the fridge is not original, just a 120 household model. The consolation prize is the frame does not appear to be sagging! That and it is "in remarkable condition"!!! Yeah, whatever...

Godspeed,
Trent

Address for the phone number is a general/roofing contractor at 1308 Collins Ave Lawrenceville, IL. I'm really concerned it is not far from the Mississippi river. Didn't it flood recently?

overlander63,

Actually the Wabash river. But it does dump into the Ohio river which then empties into the Mississippi river. So, I guess you are right???

Godspeed,
Trent

Not right, but close. It is a pretty good-sized river that runs through there. More than enough to make an Airstream into a submarine.

What would be a good price for parting the thing out? Although, there isn't much left to part out! Windows, plastic bins, awning, wheels, doors, scrap aluminum and steel. How much would the aluminum weigh on this thing?

Godspeed,
Trent

The windows are worth some money, as is the door lock assembly if it works. I think that is the "unobtainium" lock. If you buy it to part it out, I could use a hubcap...
