Hurricane Michael

Yes, I know, we have a thread on this, but it doesn’t seem to be getting much attention...perhaps because it’s title isn’t specific to Hurricane Michael.

There has been absolutely horrific, heart wrenching devastation caused by this storm, and we all might be thinking of what we can do to help those affected.

Most of us can’t drive down there and move debris, clear roads, help to restore electricity, internet and phone service, nor provide other hands-on care, but perhaps can offer up a little cash or material goods to those who are actually providing needed services.

A church or other organization in your area may be accepting in-kind donations to transport down there, and there is always the American Red Cross...my personal favorite.

Do what you can, where you are, with what you have, as the man said.

Hi Maggie,

I missed your post last fall, but have updated the thread you linked about the new assessment of Michael as a Category 5 Hurricane.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f161...ls-188010.html

Yikes, no wonder the damage was so profound!

I live the nightmare everyday. We lost our house and our boat. We were homeless for almost four months, living with friends. Changing the category of the storm is meaningless. It doesn’t change the fact that our elected “leaders” do nothing to help. We’re at 190 days and no financial relief packages have been passed. Families staying in temporary FEMA housing were kicked out, no more money. There are FEMA trailers in storage lots empty while people live in tents down the street. The blue tarps are going away slowly but by the time you get a roof it’s too late. People come visit Panama City Beach and think everything and everyone are fine, never taking a minute to go east to Panama City were NOTHING is fine. People are leaving by the thousands. I’ve been to war, this is worse...

So sorry, Jason, an utter failure by the government IMO.

Thank you for your service.

Local state rep says the state is coming up with relief money very soon. Hang on and good luck.

As I drove I-10 between Tallahassee and Panama City on the way to Topsail Hill, the devastation was profound. And that's 30 miles north of the coast. There are areas where every tree is blown over., every highway sign twisted and every billboard shredded.
Crews were working 24/7 to clear fallen trees off the armco barrier of the highway.
All of the fallen trees were blown towards the coast, so the winds there must have been from the NE.
Michael was unique in the speed at which it formed and the lack of advance warning.
