how wide is an airstream?

I'm obviously new to this forum and don't actually own an airstream quite yet. We have a Cardinal Cobra 5th wheel right now that we're going to sell so we can purchase our very first airstream. I'm just trying to decide which one we want. We are planning on doing a complete renovation to it and building it from scratch. I know we want one that is at least 30 feet. My husband is a tall guy and he needs the extra room. I was just wondering how wide are airstreams typically and does it vary with the different year and models?

For the most part the width varies by year. 1968 and earlier trailers were 7 1/2 feet wide. In 1969 a new body style was introduced and the trailers grew to 8 feet wide. In 1995 the first wide body 8 1/2 foot wide trailers were introduced, but I think it was only available on the 34' models. The rest of the product line went wide body in 1996. The 8 1/2 foot is the width of the currently produced trailers. These are all exterior measurements...

These are general guidelines. There are some models that are exceptions.

13 Panel Airstreams in the early 1950's are only seven feet wide.

hi j' welcome to the forums...

here are the details back to the 50s and a pix that shows the wide range in shape and width...

pushed OUT upper corners make the units built AFTER 94/5 feel bigger inside too...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...ody-21844.html

the width issue that is seldom mentioned relates to slide OUT streams...

which add another 14 inches or so where the dinette or sofa may be positioned...

cheers
